Anthony Gargano’s Opening Diatribe- The Window is Wide Open
Everything feels good for the Eagles right now. Several outlets rank them as the best team not just in the NFC, but in the NFL. And that is what Anthony talked about in his Opening Diatribe today. That this team is not just good this year, but that the window is wide open for them to be good for a long time. This is how Anthony opened his show today.
“The Eagles are 3-0. This is a lot of fun. And to me, go crazy. The NFL Network came out with its power rankings. And low and behold the Birds were number 1.
Now it doesn’t mean anything because it’s week 3 out of 17, before you even get to the playoffs. But it is symbolic in that they are a really good team. I heard Johnny the K talking earlier, and he had them number 1 as well. That is part of the enjoyment. That’s why I say enjoy yourself. Who knows? Talk about it. It’s a great conversation. Do I think they are better than the Bills? No, I don’t. But it doesn’t matter. If you do play the Bills, that is the Super Bowl. Then who knows what happens? Does it mean anything? No. But it is fun. It is part of the journey. My whole message this season is to enjoy the journey.
I keep talking about expectations. Of course, there are expectations. The way they are looking, there is a chance you can get some home playoff games. That’s legit. Is there a chance with this schedule that they could get the top playoff seed? Yea, it’s not crazy. I can see the same path as the 2017 Eagles. Its amazing because it is eerily similar. A conference where there are not a lot of great teams. Even in this league there are not a lot of great teams
I thought the juggernauts were Buffalo, and they lost Micah Hyde for the season. They’ve got a depleted secondary. The Chiefs have some flaws, and they moved on from Tyreek Hill. They got younger on defense so there’s going to be a little bit of ways for them to gets Spags’ defense down. The Chargers have injuries right now. Herbert is banged up. These are 3 stud teams that are having some issues. Could the Eagles make a run and win 13 games? Or even 14 like I said one day when I was drunk with green kool-aid? Yea, it’s possible. But is also sobering in that it is a long season, and it is always about attrition.
If you look at the parallels to 2017, they are squarely there. But they are better. They are in a better place than they were in 2017. In a better place, because they are a better team. I think a much better team. They’re younger. Their offensive line is younger and deeper, and they have young players on defense. They have two great WRs, both young. This team, wow.
That is what truly excites me. Yea, they are following the path of 2017, but they are better off. And that means longevity. What I really want out of this thing, is a window that is gaping wide open. A window where you are a contender for the next seven years. And that is what they are arcing towards. That is what it feels like.”
