Anthony’s Opening Diatribe- Phillies Saved The Season
Things were getting ugly for the Phillies. They got swept by the Braves, and now were in danger of being swept in a two-game series vs the Blue Jays. But a Matt Vierling walk-off single won it for them in the 10th. They preserved the 2.5-game lead over the Brewers, and are one step closer to ending the decade-long playoff drought. it was a win that Anthony Gargano said saved the season in his Opening Diatibe today.
If you missed it, you see what he had to say to open his show below…
“The night that saved the Phillies’ season occurred last night. With the Brewers having already won. The season was on the brink. Ive been trying to look at this thing and think that because of the schedule and the Brewers not being that good, that the Phillies would still make the playoffs. And that’s all I want. All I’m really looking is a couple of playoff games. Just make it. Just break the 10-year playoff drought. That’s it, that’s all I Have been thinking about.
Last Night, Vlad the Impaler hits the 3-run bomb. And I’m like, “Oh my god, you have to be kidding me.” Especially after they had chance after chance. Bases loaded, Bryce and Hoskins. And you can’t get a run home. First and third, one out, and you can’t get a run home.
Wheeler and Syndergaard don’t give up a run. Then Vlad hit a 3-run shot, which was like a tracer. But then JT makes it 3-1. All of a sudden you start to mount a little bit of a rally. Tie Ball Game. Then bases loaded, top of the 10th. Hernandez, who was nasty, hits a low rocket tracer. Segura makes a terrific play and dives on second for the double play.
Then in the bottom of the 10th, they get the run home to win it. It saved the season. It looked like they were tight. Squeezing the bat. But you know what? That was a big win last night. It was a win that saved the season.”
