Keith Pompey Joins Us To Discuss Those Kevin Durant Rumors
Keith Pompey joined ‘The Best Show Ever?’ to discuss the rumors around Kevin Durant, if the Sixers have a chance, and if it makes sense for them to go all in to get him.
On If Kevin Durant is Actually Interested in Coming Here
“From what people are saying he is very much interested in coming to the Sixers. And the Sixers are among the teams who are interested in him. But like you said, so much has to happen, and I don’t think the Sixers have even close to the best package to get Kevin Durant. So that’s the problem right there.”
On the Possibility of Him Going to Boston
“Lets say Boston says I dont want to give you Marcus Smart, I dont want to give you Robert Williams. But at the same tim, Jaylen Brown was an All-Star. Brown was their best player in the NBa Finals. So it’s one of those things where you look at it and say this is a guy who is a All Star level type of player. Boston also has the drafts to make it work. Whereas you look at the Sixers and they don’t have the picks. So yea, I think you have to say the Boston Celtics are the front runner to get him.”
On if it Makes Sense to Trade Tyrese Maxey for Him
“I honestly think when it comes down to the Sixers, if you can get a Kevin Durant, you have to mortgage the future right about now. Joel Embiid is in the prime of his career. We know about his injury history. You look at HJames Harden, it seems as though he lost a step. I know hes trying tom work hard to come back. The best time for the Sixers to win a championship is now. Alot of times your talking about ‘we;re going to jkeep this future in tack. But Harden’s bnot going to be there.. Embiid probably not going to be there… For a guy like Kevin Durant, you want to put all the chips on the table you can to get this guy. So I think you would have to do it now and you can’t worry about the future.”
On Where Sixers Currently Stand in the East
“Right now I think the 76ers are the 3rd best team in the Eastern conference. The 76ers did have a solid offseason, but a lot of that was predicated on bringing in toughness and brinign 3 and d type of guy. But in order for the Sixers to be at their best, Joel Embiid has to be healthy, and Harden has to be closer to who he was with the Rockets. But when you look at the Boston Celtics right now, they went out and upgraded their roster and got deeper. The Bucks did the same thing. So right now, heading into the season, not knowing what James Harden is going to look like. I would have to say Boston, Milwaukee, and then the Sixers.”
