Tim McManus Gives us an Update on the Jason Kelce Injury
Tim Mcmanus joined “The Best Show Ever?” today to discuss the Jason Kelce injury news, the timetable for his recovery, how his future replacement Cam Jurgens has looked in camp, and more. Here is some of what he had to say.
On Jason Kelce’s Injury
“It’s not the ideal news, but doesn’t seem like it’s going to hold him out of the season opener. Their hope right now is he will be back. hes had some lingering discomfort in that left elbow for a little while now, and he was trying to just ride it out to see if it would lessen, it didnt. So they decided to have surgery. It was described to me as a scope, or a cleanup. Thats what they had done today. He’ll be shelved for a few weeks. But they think he’ll be back for that season opener.”
On The Impact Not Having Kelce Would Have
“It’s a big deal, not having Jason Kelce in the middle of that offense. He just makes it so much easier for the QB. He’s seen it all, he knows all the coverages. That just takes a ton of weight off the QB… If this season is going to go the best that it can, it has to be a combination of the old guard still playing at a high level, coupled with the young guard taking the next step in their game.
If those two things can coalese, then all the sudden you are talking about an NFC contender. But that old guard needs to stick around for one year. And Kelce is just such an intregal part of the fabric of this team. If he would end up missing any kind of time, then there are a lot of other card that would fall in a poor direction for the Eagles.”
On How Kelce’s Future Replacement, Cam Jurgens, Has Looked
“I think that he’s looked really good. The clip that he is famous for is going up against Jordan Davis and being put on skates. Thats not representative of the camp he had, nor was that rewlaly a bad rep out of him to begin with… Kelce is extraordinarily high on this guy. He beleives he is going to be his heir apparent… That being said replacing Kelce is replacing a 5-time pro bowler, 4 timne All Pro, heartbeat of the team type of guy. And he’s green and we dont know how he is going to do until he gets those reps. People feel good about him in the building. The priactices have shown he is going to eventually eb a good draft pick. But its really big shoes to fill, clearly, when you are replacing Jason Kelce.”
