Tim McManus Gives Us an Update From Camp- Offense vs Defense
During Eagles Training Camp ESPN’s Tim McManus has been joining ‘The Best Show Ever?’ every day. Here is some of what he had to tell them today.
On Jalen Hurts Showing Improvement Today
“I thought we saw some improvements from Jalen Hurts. The last two practices were not his sharpest. The defense was clearly getting the better of the offense. But Hurts turned it around today. It wasnt this amazing feat from him. There werent a whole lot of throws down field. But what we did see was some better rhythm. There was better timing from his throws, and better accuracy than we’ve seen over the past two days… He was allowing the receiver to run after the catch, and catch it in stride. Which is a real big part of this offense, and something he needed to improve from last season.”
On If Team is Buying Into Hype Around Them
“I think they are in a pretty good place… I haven’t seen any kind of air of ‘we’ve arrived,’ or “we’re amazing’. That’s not what’s dripping off of these guys right now. There’s very much a workman-type attitude and a recognition that big offseason moves don’t correlate to in-season success and that they have a lot to prove. At least from where I am standing, they haven’t bought into any hype machine that was surrounding this team early on.”
On If The Defense Being Better Is Why The Offense Has Struggled Early in Camp
“I would say it’s a factor for sure, and the secondary is a big part of that. I feel like the corner trio has been one of the key strengths of this team early on in training camp… The secondary just isn’t allowing the offense to maneuver the way they’d like to. I don’t think the first team offense has scored a TD since day 1 of camp… It’s the age-old question of training camp. Do you look at that as the offense is struggling or the defense is doing well?… It is somewhere in the middle. The Defense has been performing very well, and the offense needs to step it up.”
