Pete Rose Will Attend Phillies Alumni Weekend
Pete Rose is finally returning to Philadelphia.
Rose will be in attendance when the Phillies take on the Washington Nationals on August 7th for the Phillies alumni weekend. This will be the first time since 1989 that Rose will be in attendance to watch a Phillies game. Rose was banned from baseball by then commissioner Bart Giamatti for betting on baseball. Rose, Major League Baseball’s all-time hit king, claimed he never bet against his team. The 81 year old has been kept out of baseball’s Hall of Fame and also shunned from the sport.
But there has always been a push to induct Rose into the Hall of Fame, and forgive “Charlie Hustle.” In 2015 Rose applied to be reinstated by commissioner Rob Manfred denied the request. A year later the Cincinnati Reds inducted Rose into the teams Hall of Fame. 6 years later Rose is returning to the place he won the 1980 World Series.
Rose first appearance at Citizens Bank Park will likely overshadow the induction of two teammates Rose had in 1980. Outfielder Bake McBride and reliever Ron Reed. Yes….those two are going into the “Phillies Wall of Fame” before Rose….
Hopefully Rose will follow them next season.
