Brian Dawkins Discusses His Life After the NFL
Earlier Today Brian Dawkins joined the Anthony Gargano Show to discuss his life after Football. He started by discussing this work with The Caring People’s Alliance, a local charity working to combat poverty and justice by working with children. Later he also got into discussing his experience coaching his own kids.
Dawkins spoke about choosing to retire when he felt he could still play, and why he is happy he did because it gave him a chance to help people find the success he had.
“I was blessed to be able to walk away from the game on my terms. Obviously I would have liked to win a championship and walk out, but that didn’t happen. But I was still able to play. So I decided I had enough peace in my heart to walk away. And that’s what I did. And now I have a chance to really dive into the things I want to do to bless people, to help people. to share with people… to allow them to bring pout the greatness in them.”
Anthony and B Dawk also bonded over coaching their sons, and how to approach dealing with the highs of a win, but also the lows of a loss.
“I don’t just play the game for fun. The best fun is when you are winning. So you are supposed to play any and all things to win the game. But if you then lose it, you grab what you need from the loss understanding that you can be better the next time. So if you are emotional like I used to be after losses, my dad taught me use that emotion. Grab it. Why are you emotional? What did you do? What can you do better? Be better. Boom, that’s how we do it. But they were talking about getting pizza, win or loss. I was like, nah we aren’t going to get pizza. If we lose we aren’t getting pizza. We’re going home. Pizza is celebratory for after a victory. If we lose, we are going home.”
