Another Flyers Losing Streak- How Will Fletcher Respond?
By: Haley Taylor
The Flyers played back-to-back games against the Islanders. Their first game on Monday the Islanders outplayed the Flyers defeating them 4-1.
The Flyers were looking to break their 8 game losing streak in Philly on Tuesday. After 60 minutes of play, the Flyers and Islanders were tied at three.
With a scoreless overtime the Flyers went to their sixteenth shootout of the season. The Flyers didn’t make any of their nine attempts, the Islanders were able too. Islanders win 4-3.
The Flyers are now in a nine game losing streak and haven’t won a game in 2022. With the downfall of this hockey team and more frustration arising not just from players but fans, what moves will be made?
All eyes are on general manager Chuck Fletcher. With no statements being made about trades, coaching staff, and potential roster moves, the lack of urgency is very disappointing.
The Flyers this past off-season acquired veterans such as, Ryan Ellis, Ramus Ristolainen, Keith Yandle, and Cam Atkinson.
Ellis being out for majority of the season due to injury, and sloppy play making by the other veterans comes with no surprise that fans are frustrated with Fletcher.
The Flyers are one of oldest teams in the NHL. This team needs is young talent who can score, and a strong defensive player to be paired with Provorov. There is still speculation about the Claude Giroux trade, but nothing confirmed yet.
The Flyers welcome back Jakub Voracek, who spent a decade with the Flyers, as the Columbus Blue Jackets come to Philadelphia tonight. When asked about playoff hopes Giroux said, “I’m a strong believer in not looking at the bigger picture and just focus on Columbus.”
This is a big game for the Flyers since they need to end their losing streak and not tie it with their previous one of ten. Puck drop is at 7pm.
