Eagles’ Cooper DeJean Shares His Go-To Philly Cheesesteak Spots
While chatting on “The Giovanni Show,” Eagles’ cornerback Cooper DeJean shared his favorite spots for Philadelphia‘s best cheesesteaks, and the prices range from bougie to budget.
DeJean loves spots at both ends of the price spectrum. His favorite? The $16 sandwich at Angelo’s Pizzeria on South 9th Street. But he also raves about Barclay Prime’s fancy $140 version, made with high-end Japanese A5 Wagyu beef.
In a neat food-football connection, both places use Cooper Sharp cheese – matching the brand that sponsors the Eagles defender. If you’re heading to Angelo’s, remember to bring cash. They’re open Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Show host Giovanni Hamilton mentioned that DeJean still needs to try Dalessandro’s Steaks. The shop won The Inquirer’s 2023 cheesesteak crown, grabbing 23% of the votes.
At Angelo’s, homemade bread and top-notch meats have made this place a neighborhood favorite. You’ll usually see people lined up down the street, both locals and visitors waiting for their sandwich.
In 2024, LoveFood.com ranked Barclay Prime as Philadelphia’s most expensive restaurant. Their luxurious cheesesteak features hand-cut Wagyu beef, black truffle, foie gras, fried onions, and Cooper Sharp cheese on a sesame roll—served alongside a half bottle of champagne. Not exactly a wit or without kinda place.
The rookie defensive back wrapped up his first season by helping the Eagles beat Kansas City in Super Bowl LIX. His clutch 38-yard interception return for a touchdown locked up their 40-22 victory.
Cooper DeJean’s birthday touchdown made NFL history – he became the first player since Steve Van Buren in 1947 to score in a championship game on their birthday.
Picked 40th overall in the 2024 draft, Cooper DeJean got his first NFL start playing nickelback in Week 6 against Cleveland and he never looked back.
