The Philadelphia Flyers Trade Rumors Are Swirling
The Philadelphia Flyers trade rumors have been swirling lately on social media. Actually, they’ve been more than swirling. As we enter tropical storm season, there has been a recent hurricane of reports and rumors about various trades that are being worked on by the Flyers’ brass. Of course, we knew this offseason would be a tumultuous one for the orange and black. I’m not just talking about their new uniforms.
With Danny Briere and Keith Jones now working in tandem in the front office to try and aggressively rebuild one of the lesser rosters in the NHL, there was always the thought that large moves could be coming. But, as so often happens with rumors, sometimes as quickly as they appear on social media, they’re gone. It’s just strange that it’s happening so often, in such a short time, with the same singular team.
The Flyers have already made a rather large move this offseason. Trading Ivan Provorov to the Columbus Blue Jackets as part of a 3-team trade that also included the LA Kings that netted Philly Cal Petersen, Sean Walker, Helge Grans, and 3 draft picks. That trade is confirmed and cleared already, but there are plenty more Flyers trade rumors that followed that have not yet materialized into actual trades. There have been numerous players mentioned, from Carter Hart, to Kevin Hayes, to Tony DeAngelo, to Travis Sanheim… and those are just a handful. It seems that Danny Briere is willing and ready to talk to any team in the NHL who comes with a reasonable offer on any player. But are these deals actually going to get done?
It’s hard to even keep track of everything going on with the Flyers, as rumors continue to percolate on social media.
Here are some of the latest tweet updates on various deals that are supposedly in the works:
Ok. The latest… and please read the entire thread. Flyers and Blues have talked about several players. Up to four Flyers NHL players were potentially involved in this discussion.

At one point three were part of the deal.
Sounds like at the moment it’s two - Hayes and Sanheim.
As Ant mentions here, the #Flyers are looking at different options with Travis Sanheim.

The Winnipeg Jets are one of the teams PHI has had discussions with, I'm told.#FueledByPhilly #gojetsgo https://t.co/DmK4R1Zf7H
There have been multiple updates to each of these deals since they were first rumored. Yet none of them besides the Provorov trade has gotten done. There are numerous concerns because of that. The first one that comes to mind is the fact that so many reports are coming out of the retooled Flyers front office in such rapid fashion. It seems that someone, or multiple someones, have been talking a little too much this offseason.
It also is concerning because of the timing, with the NHL Draft looming on Wednesday night. The market will heat up the closer we get to the draft, but it also puts a deadline on trading players for some of the top picks in this year’s class. The good news with these Flyers trade rumors, though, is that at least things are happening. Following a trade deadline this season that saw Chuck Fletcher be negligently inactive, it is refreshing to see the clear activeness of the Flyers’ brass so far this offseason. Now, they just need to turn that activity into all the right moves. But hey, that’s the easy part, right?
