Anthony’s Opening Diatribe- To Rest Harden, or to Push for the 2-Seed
Anthony Gargano Debated whether to rest Harden or Not, in his Opening Diatribe this morning…
“You have Harden with the achilles issue and Joel with the calf issue. Everybody says it is okay. You just want to make sure they are good going into the playoffs. Obviously, if it is a health concern, you have to rest Harden. I don’t know the answer to what the issues are with Harden. How serious is it? Is it just tendonitis? If there are any issues, there is no choice, it is not something you want him to play through. Then he is limited in the playoffs, which is my greatest fear.
The flip side of the coin is this. I don’t want to give up the two seed. Situations may force me to do that… You won last night against Chicago. You have Golden State, a tough team at home. Phoenix on a back-to-back. Even though they don’t have Durant, still a tough team. And then Monday in Denver. Which is always a bad spot. You are going to play 3 games in 4 days, plus the altitude. 2-2 on the trip would be a godsend. If they could somehow go 3-1 it would be great. The other issue is the freaking Celtics have Indiana and San Antonio. So even though you are .5 game behind them, it sucks because they have two winnable games, and we have to play 3 tough games.
I would like to play Boston with a home court. I think it’s imperative to home court. Going into Boston, I am a little scared. So I am not yet ready to give up the 2-seed. Even though I may have to. Especially if Harden needs rest going into the playoffs. Because obviously, I am not going to imperil Harden for the 2-seed, I need him for the playoffs.”
