Jeff McLane on The Eagles Plans to Replace Their Coordinators
The Eagles are down both of their Coordinators. And to discuss what their plans may be to replace them. Jeff McLane joined the Anthony Gargano show. Are there certain names to watch for at DC? Is Brian Johnson a lock at OC? Jeff McLane discussed that and more. See what he had to say below.
On if Gus Bradley could be an option for the Eagles at Defensive Coordinator…
“Internally, Dennard Wilson would be the guy. I don’t know if that is where they want to go. I have heard good things about him. And that would allow them to keep the scheme, and you have some players who are scheme-specific, primarily Jordan Davis… The Gus (Bradley) thing is interesting. That is a different scheme. he is from the Pete Carrol school. A lot of Cover 3. 4-3 Under. So you are changing things. It is not going to the wide 9. But you would have to change things up a little bit.
The Eagles have 7 starters who are going to be free agents, so you could certainly cater what you do in terms of personnel in terms of the scheme. But the problem is you just expended a first-round pick on Jordan Davis. I don’t know if he is the type of guy who can play in that scheme… The one thing we know he can do is lineup over the center and be an NT. The other stuff he can’t do very well right now.”
On Brian Johnson as the next Offensive Coordinator
“That one is written in stone. I don’t think he technically called plays in his previous stops. So it will be a question for Nick if he wants to go back to doing that, or if he hands it to Brian. My guess is he keeps it the way it is because it has worked so well since they made that change. It frees up Nick to do other things, be more involved in the defense, and certainly in terms of game management. He has been one of the best game managers since that switch.
But you are talking about a different play caller, and that opens another can of worms. I know Brian Johnson is highly regarded. My guess is if Jalen Hurts continues to play this well, it could be almost a one-and-done with brian… This is what happens when you have a successful team. You start losing coaches.”
