Tim McManus Think Jalen Hurts Will Play vs The Giants
Will Jalen Hurts play this Sunday vs the Giants? What went wrong against the Saints? Tim McManus discussed that and more when he joined “The Best Show Ever?” earlier today. Here is some of what he had to say.
On if Jalen Hurts Will Play on Sunday vs the Giants
“I think he is going to play. Signs are pointing in that direction. He was a participant in the walkthrough today. That is the first time since he got hurt that he took part… The feeling I have gotten within the organization was they never really viewed this as a major injury. But they didn’t want to do anything that would further delay the healing of that throwing shoulder. And now it suggests they feel he is in a good spot where he can go out. The hope is to not further injure it and be able to play at a high level. So I think Hurts is going to be under center vs New York.”
On What Went Wrong vs The Saints
“One is just the play of Minshew in particular. My reaction is there were 4 turnovers in the Dallas game. And it felt like an overcorrection to me. Where Minshew was a little bit gun-shy when it came to letting it rip downfield. You saw all of those sacks piling up very quickly, and him not being able to release it on time. He was playing a very good pass defense. The message had to be driven home that we need to protect the football. And I think hesitancy crept in from there. And that was the major reason he was not playing at even the level he was playing at a week ago.
I also think the coaching staff had probably their worst day of the year. The offensive play-callers let Minshew down. The game plan just wasn’t right. It was known going in this was a defense that was susceptible to the ground game. Whereas they are the second-best pass defense in the NFL. The game plan didn’t really reflect that.
And the 3rd thing was the team was flat. Fletcher Cox today said he thought the Saints came out with more energy than they did. Bradberry said the team was looking too far ahead over the last several weeks. These little bits of information… paint the picture of a team that wasn’t as focused in as they needed to be in each of the last two weeks.”
