Dave Zangaro Previews This Sunday’s Eagles Vs Bears Game
The Eagles travel to Chicago this weekend to play the Bears to try and improve to 13-1. And to preview that game, “The Best Show Ever?” talked to Dave Zangaro from NBC Sports Philly. What can we expect from this matchup vs the Bears? Does Justin Fields pose a threat to this Eagles’ defense? Dave discussed all that, and more. Here is some of what he had to say.
On Eagles Run Defense vs Justin Fields
“Certainly, the Eagles run defense is what you have to worry about. The Bears don’t have a ton of other offensive weapons. And Fields is really dynamic. He is a good passer too, he just doesn’t have a ton of guys to throw the football to right now. But him as a rusher is electric. And he is probably going to break some on Sunday. He does it to everyone. They need to be disciplined in the rush lanes when they go after him. They kind of got a little bit of a test last week vs Daniel Jones. He is not Justin Fields, but he does run quite a bit.
You can’t free lance, you have to do what your job is at the play, and try to keep him in the pocket as much as you can. If he breaks, it takes good tackling and good angles to make sure you get him down.”
On What Has Changed With The Defense In Recent Weeks
“I think some of it was schematic. Gannon truly had to figure out what they had. Some of it was tackling. They didn’t tackle well earlier in the season. And some of that was not wrapping up, and some of it was poor angles. And I think some of the pass rushers are coming on, and some of that was health related… Now that they have such a deep rotation, not only are those guys not injured, but they are fresher. We are seeing that in the second half of games. They are getting up on teams, and they are able to hunt in the second half when they get into those known pass situations… If you do that, you have this 9-man pass rush rotation that can absolutely hunt. And that is what we have seen lately.”
