Jimmy Kempski Previews Eagles vs Commanders
After a decent layoff, the Eagles are back. They play tonight on Monday Night Football vs the Commanders. And Jimmy Kempski joined “The Best Show Ever?” to preview the game. How do the Eagles match up with the Commanders? Will the Eagles miss Avonte Maddox who just went on the IR? Jimmy Kempski discussed all of that, and more when he joined the show earlier today. Here is some of what he had to say.
On Replacing Avonte Maddox
“I get the impulse to move Chauncey Gardner-Johnson down to the slot because that is where he primarily played with the Saints. But then who would play Safety? I think that Josiah Scott is a better slot corner than he is a safety. So I think it’s a next-man-up mentality. Avonte Maddox will be out for at least 4 games. And Josiah Scott will have to hold down the fort in the slot. But again I think if you just move CJ Gardner Johnson into the slot, you open up a different problem. Josiah Scott is a better corner than Kvon Wallace is a safety. The easiest move is the move Scott into the starting lineup.”
On Defending Taylor Heinicke
“Normally when you talk about a player on an opposing team you try to be nice about it. But he stinks. I don’t get the appeal of Taylor Heinicke in any way. He is very feisty I guess. Which I guess has energized some of his teammates. They have had a little bit of a spark since he took over. But when I look at him as an actual player, there is very little to like in terms of actual traits. He can move around a little bit. But other than that he is short, he has a rag arm, and his accuracy isn’t all that great. You put it all together and you get a QB that is a backup for a reason… As far as a defensive approach, I think you just do what you do. You don’t necessarily worry about how that guy can beat you. Because he really is not that much of a threat.”
