Anthony Gargano’s Opening Diatribe- A Bit of a Bummer
See what Anthony Gargano Had to Say To Open His Show Below…
A bit of a bummer. I realize that. I was like everyone else thinking we were going to be up 2-0 in this series. We were hopeful. Nola coming in. Just get to Snell, get him wild. And he was wild. They get 4 runs off of him early. That’s the shame of it. It was weird because of that back-to-back home runs on consecutive pitches, and it is 4-2. I thought that Snell would continue to unravel. He got it together. And the issues come in the 5th.
I thought Nola was done with the 5th inning issues. That is the one thing I was disappointed with. Having a lead, and having Nola on the mound, you felt good. Especially as the shadows came in. And it was a hot day, we thought the ball would travel yesterday, and it was a high sun. You saw early that the outfielders had issues with fly balls. But then when the sun shifts over the mountains it creates shadows. That usually is an advantage pitcher all the way. But Nola couldn’t;t make it work. And it just kind of got ugly in the 5th inning.
It reminds me of the Cliff Lee game when you got a lead, and you could kill them. That was the stake in the heart of the Padres. And I am not going to lie to you guys, I am worried. I love that they are coming home even. If you tell me before the series starts that they are going to come back to a wild Citizens Bank Park on Friday, I am happy. A Split in San Diego, coming home with 3 at CBP? I feel great about that.
The only issue is the way you lose game 2. Having a lead. Nola is not Nola like. So we come home, and it is 1-1. And the issue is you have Suarez, who is hit to miss, and a bullpen game. Before you go back to Wheeler on Sunday. I look at like this. You have to steal 1 of the 2. If I steal Friday or Saturday, now we are even. And now I have Wheeler. I feel confident about Wheeler on Sunday. Now I’m up 3-2. I’ll take my chances being up 3-2…
