Are you feeling confident heading into the Phillies series vs the Cardinals? Because Larry Bowa is. The Phillies Wall of Fame Shortstop and manager joined Anthony Gargano to discuss the weekend series in St Louis. And he was very high on the Phillies chances to not just win the series, but sweep it. Here is what Larry Bowa had to say earlier today…
On What He Thinks About the Matchup With the Cardinals
I think this matchup is perfect for us. Their 3 guys are Arenado, Goldschmidt, and Pujols. They like the ball out over the plate. We’ve got guys who can run the ball in on them. I see this as a two-game sweep. I don’t see any competition there. Our matchup against their pitching staff is outstanding. I have watched them play the last 3 to 6 games. Sometimes when you clinch early you take your foot off the pedal. Then you have to kick it back in again. Everything points to us getting back to playing the Braves and having some games in Citizens Bank Park.
On What Cardinals Pitchers He Expects Us To See
For some reason, I have a feeling Quintana is pitching the first game. And then Mikolas the second game. Wainwright has been a super pitcher, but he is really short right now. I have watched his last few starts, he just might be out of bullets. I don’t see them starting him. But who knows? He has that experience. But I don’t think it is going to go 3 games anyway so I am not going to worry about it.
On Why He is So Confident Heading Into This Series
I just think we have enough veterans. And I know they haven’t played in the playoffs, but there are enough veterans that they aren’t just satisfied getting there. We have two good pitchers at the beginning, and I will even throw Ranger in here. Apart from his last start, he has pitched exceptionally well. I like our bullpen. Schwarber is getting hot. We need Bryce. I’m not going to lie about that. He needs to pick it up. He is that red-light player. When the lights come on he shines.
