The Anthony Gargano Show – Weekdays 10am – 2pm

Weekdays 10am-2pm

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - SEPTEMBER 19: Darius Slay #2 of the Philadelphia Eagles celebrates after his interception during the third quarter against the Minnesota Vikings at Lincoln Financial Field on September 19, 2022 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

It’s the Eagles vs the Commanders on Sunday. And to preview the game, Zach Berman of The Athletic joined The Anthony Gargano Show. Here is some of what he had to say to Anthony about what to expect when they play the Commanders…

On what he saw from the Eagles’ Defense on Monday Night

“What really jumped out to me was less the pressure and more the coverage There were as tight in coverage as they’ve been in his time here. That was reflected in how aggressive they were on the ball. They had 11 pass breakups. That’s by far the most in Gannon’s time. They’ve averaged 3 a game since Gannon has been. The 5 Darius Slay had was a career-high. That really jumped out to me. They were so tight on the ball from the very first drive. That’s a good sign. I really think for this defense to be what it can be, they need to allow their corners to play tight in coverage. Let Slay, and let Bradberry do what they do best.”

On how they might defend Carson Wentz

“I think in terms of pressure, they are going to want to hit him. But you can say that for most quarterbacks. I think what’s a little different with Carson, is he doesn’t mind holding onto the ball. Almost to a detriment. There are some QBS where they just want to get rid of the ball, and they are willing to take 5 yards. Carson thinks there is a TD on every single play. He doesn’t often take those layups. I think the Eagles will try to play into that. They are going to try and force Carson to sit in the pocket and hold onto the ball longer. The way Gannon likes to play actually fits well against Carson. Because he can beat you with explosive plays, and the Eagles are among the best in the league at preventing that.”

His Prediction for this game

“I don’t get caught up in being favorites on the road. That shows you are the better team. I think the Eagles should win this game. The reality is I am surprised by the over/under. I thought it was going to be higher. Because Washington can score. If there’s any pause, it’s that if you get into a shootout, Carson can make plays. I don’t want to say it doesn’t favor the Eagles, but that’s Washington’s best chance of winning. Is to get into a shootout and trust the arm of their QB. But ultimately I think the Eagles win and cover, And I would take the over.”
