The Anthony Gargano Show – Weekdays 10am – 2pm

Weekdays 10am-2pm

DETROIT, MICHIGAN - OCTOBER 31: Jalen Hurts #1 of the Philadelphia Eagles tries to get around Tracy Walker III #21 of the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on October 31, 2021 in Detroit, Michigan.

The wait is over. Eagles football is back this Sunday when they face the Lions in Detroit. And to break down the matchup, and preview the season, Zach Berman of The Athletic joined The Anthony Gargano Show. They discussed what the Eagles’ game plan may look like on offense, what to expect from CJ Gardner Johnson, and much more.

One thing they got into was what kind of offense we will see. Will they be running it like they did last year vs the Lions? Or will the new weapons on offense lead to a more pass-heavy attack? This is what Berman had to say…

“They are going to pass the ball more than they did in Detroit last season and when they played well last season. I think there is much more confidence in the passing game. I think they will attack the middle of the field more too.”

Zach Berman also got into the addition of CJ Gardner Johnson and what we should expect from him on Sunday and going forward…

“My expectation is he is there just about every play. I don’t think there is a real ease in period. There is a reason they cut Anthony Harris, and traded for (CJ), and put him in with the first team the next day… I’m not saying he solves everything, but he dramatically changes that defense. The way you can play, the way you can deploy your corners, how you are in the middle of the field, and the range that he has… But the big thing you are getting with him is a modern-day safety, whose rangy, who can cover, and can hit. This is what they needed in that defense.”

And he also weighed in on if the Eagles are committed to Jalen Hurts…

“They genuinely want him to succeed. He is not the placeholder quarterback. They love the way he is wired. He’s so popular in the locker room. They love the way he works. They want this to succeed. But they need to see it consistently on Sundays. And if they don’t, they have the assets next offseason to try and get somebody. But they are going to be committed as they can be to make this work. Because from Monday until Saturday,. they love everything about him.”
