This is really sad to see happen at all especially on a routine grounder. A starting Phillies player injured while playing first base against the Detroit Tigers during one of the team’s final Spring Training games of the year.

Rhys Hoskins, the starting first baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies, had to be carted off in the second inning of a Spring Training game against the Tigers. He appears to be ranging backwards to the left to go after a groundball when his left knee buckles. He quickly hopped to the ground and grabbed it in pain.

Hoskins was a crucial part to the 2022 Philadelphia Phillies starting lineup that ultimately made it to the World Series despite just narrowly making it to the playoffs. The crazy thing about his performance in the playoffs back in 2022 is that he only batted .159 (11-for-69) but, of those eleven hits, six of them were homeruns. Including this one!

It seems that his wife is at the game considering mere moments before the injury occurred, she tweeted this hilarious observation of a fellow fan.

Not A Stranger To Bad Knees

He isn’t unfamiliar with knee injuries, in fact, he actually revealed that during the offseason after the 2022 postseason, he had surgery on his right knee to repair a meniscus injury. He said this according to MLB.com.

“Just a little clean-up, just a little part sticking out the back that needed to be cleaned up.”

It seemed like his knee issues were behind him but now we have an Phillies player injured with the regular season right around the corner.

Jeff Kurkjian is actually headed down to Spring Training next week to broadcast live, for more details, click here and learn more.

Here’s The Injury

  • Warning: Some May See This As Graphic

It’s even scarier since it was a non-contact injury. We hope and pray that he is okay!!

  • Here Are Some Reactions Across The Game

He had to be carted off of the field, which is never a good thing.

  • Jayson Stark, A Philadelphia Guy, With More Details

He calls it a “significant left knee injury.”

  • I Mean, He Was Hitting Homeruns Just A Couple Days Ago

This is unfortunately how this game goes, very upsetting.
