PHILADELPHIA, PA - MAY 05: Ben Simmons #25 of the Philadelphia 76ers dunks the ball past Kawhi Leonard #2 and Serge Ibaka #9 of the Toronto Raptors in Game Four of the Eastern Conference Semifinals at the Wells Fargo Center on May 5, 2019 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Raptors defeated the 76ers 101-96.

See what Andrew Salciunas found in the Audio Vault today! Today, the vault featured some of the best moments from some of the most disappointing players in recent Philly Sports history. The False Messiahs. The guys we got excited about, just to eventually have our hearts broken. And there have been a lot of them.

Over the last decade, our 4 teams have had a lot of high picks. The Sixers went through the whole process. The Eagles traded up to take a certain QB second overall. The Phillies were bad for a while and had a lot of high picks. And with all those high picks, come players with high expectations. And with those high expectations, comes a lot of fan excitement. There have been multiple players for each team that were dubbed as the saviors of their franchise. Turns out, they were false messiahs.

These are the guys you may have once seen Jerseys of everywhere. Who maybe even came onto the scene at first and blew us away. But in the end, left us with nothing but broken hearts and bad memories. Philly fans love harder than anyone. And when the people we love let us down, the fall is as hard as the love was.

It is relevant right now because we are falling in love with a young player today. Andrew Painter is the top pitching prospect in the MLB and is on track to make the Phillies roster at just 19 years old. But our history with hyped prospects has some fans maybe a little slow to fall in love again.

So Andrew picked 7 of the prominent false messiahs in recent Philly sports history. And for the Vault today, he played the high moments for each of them. The time that had us perhaps the most excited for their future. See who those players are below, and then you can listen back to the segment to hear Andrew and Anythony’s reaction to each name.
