Every day on The Anthony Gargano Show, Andrew Salciunas pulls audio from famous moments on this day in history. Today that included a famous coach ejection, which led Choonis to play some of the greatest ejections in sports history.
Today in 1985, Bobby Knight threw a chair onto the court, which led to his ejection. It was 5 minutes into a Big 10 Matchup between Indiana and Purdue. The famous hot-head Knight took exception to refs calling his team for a string of fouls. While a Pudue player stepped to the line to shoot Free Throws, Knight took a shot of his own. He hurled a chair onto the court and unleashed a tirade of expletives not safe to play over the radio. They tossed him out of the game.
Knight is known for being angry, but he is not the only person ejected from games. There is a rich sports history of players and coaches losing their minds and getting kicked from the game. Most of it comes from Baseball, but as we saw with Knight, Basketball is no stranger to ejections either. And Andrew gathered some of the best ejections to play in the Audio Vault today.
The list includes the Knight chair toss of course. But he also played Bobby Cox being kicked from a World Series game. Kyle Schwarber losing his mind at Angel Hernandez’s awful strike zone in a game last season. An Independent League Baseball player using a trash can as a prop to let an Umpire know he is “trash” at his job. And the famously surly Terry Collins going on a rant that you will not want to play at work.
