Jalen Hurts has cashed IN. The Eagles quarterback signed a massive contract with the Eagles for $255 million over the next 5 years. The Eagles QB becomes “the highest paid QB in football” if you look at average annual salary. He will make, on average, $51 million. But the contract details were interesting.
In 2023 Jalen Hurts’ cap hit is $6.15 million.
In 2024 Jalen Hurts’ cap hit is $13.56 million
In 2025 Jalen Hurts’ cap hit is $21.77 million
In 2026 Jalen Hurts’ cap hit is $31.77 million
On the surface that certainly seems like Howie Roseman once again pulled a Houdini act with the cap. But is it as good as Eagles fans think? Lets take a look at how it ranks among the highest paid QB’s in the game. Because at the end of the day if you are an Eagles fan all you care about is the cap hit. The rest of it is just what Jeffrey Lurie has to pay. The cap hit is what allows you to build a team.
So I took a look at the top 11 quarterbacks in the league. Once I reached Jared Goff I decided to stop. The top 11 is the total value of the contract. So Patrick Mahomes $450 million dollar deal is #1, and so on. I then looked at the players average cap hit over the next 4 seasons (because we know those current numbers thanks to Adam Schefter)
Some of the quarterbacks have an out before the 4 years is up. So in that situation I just averaged out until the “out” hit. So here are the average cap hits for top 11 QB’s in football and where Jalen Hurts ranks.
