Philadelphia is continuing to be impacted by the highway collapse. A lot of commuters are having to plan I-95 detours.
Early Sunday morning (June 11th), a tanker truck caught fire under an I-95 overpass in Philadelphia. The truck crashed into the wall while trying to go around a curve. It was carrying 8,500 gallons of gasoline, according to Pennsylvania State Police. On impact, the truck exploded and began an inferno that took hours to put out.
In the process of the fire, the northbound side of 95 collapsed on top of the burning truck due to the high heat. The southbound side also became compromised as a result of the blaze. The tragic crash took an even worse turn, now knowing that an entire stretch of a major interstate would be closed.
People use I-95 daily to get to work, and it is most Philadelphian’s access to the shore. Tons of commuters use the road daily, and without it, there are going to be a ton of traffic headaches. PennDOT has suggested a detour for Philadelphians to use, but we all know there are many different ways to get to the same place. We’ve compiled a list of I-95 detours to take in the days after the collapse.
