PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - APRIL 04: Joel Embiid #21 of the Philadelphia 76ers drives past Marcus Smart #36 of the Boston Celtics during the fourth quarter at Wells Fargo Center on April 04, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

See what Andrew Salciunasfound in the Audio Vault today. Every day he dives into the Vault to pull out Audio relevant to the day. And today, there was only one option with what to play in the Vault. Great Sixers-Celtics moments. Sixers-Celtics Game 1 is tonight. A rivalry with a very rich history.

Maybe not so much recently. But if you go back to the Dr. J and Larry Bird era, it felt like they routinely met up in the Eastern Conference Finals. And those ECF matchups led to some fireworks. Including several times where players literally came to blows with other players, or sometimes even opposing fans in the stands.

This upcoming series will hopefully add to the Sixers-Celtics lore. Provided of course the big man Joel Embiid is healthy enough to go. But they are two teams who have already played some tight exciting games. But before we get to see what happens in this series, Andrew looked back at the past great moments from Sixers’ history.

Here is what he played in The Audio Vault today:

  • Dr. J and Larry Bird Fight

You can’t do a list of Sixers-Celtics moments without this iconic moment. Dr.J and Bird faced off a ton in their careers. And all that bad blood on the court finally poured in 1984.

  • Sedale Threatt vs Danny Ainge Fight

The on-court fighting was not done with Dr.J vs Bird though. A couple of years later, it was Ainge and Threatt exchanging blows on the court.

  • Cedric Maxwell Fights A Sixers Fan

Before either of these incidents, it was Cedric Maxwell fighting Philadelphians. Except he wasn’t fighting another player, he went into the stands to attack a fan. It was game 6 of an Eastern Conference Finals series that Boston eventually won.

  • Dr. J's Story of Sixers Ownership Showing Faith in the Players

In the 1980-1981 season, the Celtics got the best of the Sixers, but the next year, the Sixers got revenge. They met each other in the Eastern Conference Finals again. Sixers took a 3-1 lead, but the Celtics roared back to tie the series, forcing a game 7 in Boston. Sixers won that, but later, Dr. J shared a story of how the Owners showed their trust in the players, which inspired them to go out and win game 7.

  • Sixers Make a Run in Game 7, and Boston Fans Chant Beat LA for the Sixers

Speaking of game 7, Andrew also played the moments leading up to that win. And as the Sixers were sealing their win, Boston fans broke out into chants of Beat LA. It’s not common to see fans of a rival team to root for their rival, but the hatred for the Lakers, who had won way too much, was even greater, making for a cool moment.
