Taking time for yourself is so important for your health. Believe it or not, your mind and body are connected! So in order to feel your best, it is important to take some “me time” this winter and do something for yourself to keep your mind sharp and your body relaxed.

But we know what you’re thinking – I don’t have time for that! But don’t sweat it, we’re here to help. And it starts by carving out the time that belongs to you!

Our friends at Virtua Health put together these 6 easy ways to take time for yourself and avoid catching a case of the wintertime blues.

  • Read a Book

They say summer is the best reading season. But to be honest, there are many amazing new reads that come out each winter! Try to put time aside to read one chapter each day. Reading is a great way to help de-stress your mind and help you relax. Studies show that reading before bed will even help you sleep better! Who knew?

  • Journal

Journaling is an easy, fun, and effective way to relax and put your feelings on paper (or your notes app on an iPhone if that’s your thing!) By taking a little time each day to write down thoughts and reflections, you can gain insight to your moods. It’s proven to reduce stress and improve mental health, and there are many unique ways to do it. From bullet journaling to calendar journaling and everything in between, pick up a pen and start working!

  • Watch a Movie

Holiday movies are the best movies of all time. What’s better than curling up on the couch with a warm blanket and a cup of something hot and enjoying a holiday classic? Home Alone 1 and 2. It’s a Wonderful Life. Elf. Christmas Vacation. Die Hard. This season, take the time to watch a movie you love. It’s a great way to relax and take your mind off of the stresses of everyday life.

  • Daily Exercise

Whether you like to hit the gym or are more of a “I’ll do crunches at home” person, daily exercise is important for your overall health. Not only is it helpful to keep your body in shape, but it releases hormones that are good for your mental health. Spend your “me time” in the gym trying out new workout routines and machines this year.

  • Do Something from Your Bucket List

If there is something that you’ve been yearning to do, now is the time to do it! Put a day aside to -accomplish one of your goals. Whether that’s snowboarding for the first time or cooking a new meal, doing something that you want to do will keep your mind and body healthy this season.

  • Stay on Top of Your Health

Now more than ever, it’s important to put your health first. If you aren’t feeling like yourself this season, our friends at Virtua Health can get you the care you need. Get the conversation started and connect with one of their primary care physicians today.
