INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA - MARCH 01: Defensive inemen Adetomiwa Adebawore of Northwestern speaks to the media during the NFL Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium on March 01, 2023 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Could Northwestern’s Adetomiwa Adebawore be the Eagles’ pick at 30?  The Eagles have two picks in the first round.

Given The Eagles’ history, it feels safe to say one of them will be spent on a lineman. Maybe even both. Outside of taking WRs in the first round in two recent years, they have taken an O-Lineman or D-Lineman in the draft nearly every year under Howie Roseman. And with the Eagles having some needs along both lines, it makes sense for them to look at the D-Line at either pick 10 or pick 30. Even if they trade out of pick 30, the 2nd round pick they got back could very well be a defensive lineman.

Javon Hargrave, Linval Joseph, and Ndamukong Suh all leaving. On the edge, Brandon Graham is getting older. They don’t have much depth outside of him, Josh Sweat, and Hasson Reddick. Besides, you can never have too much depth along the defensive line.

There is one guy that could fit either of those needs. Adetomiwa Adebawore out of Northwestern.  We have already discussed other options on the D Line like Jalen Carter, Myles Murphy, Lukas Van Ness, Nolan Smith, and Bryan Bresee. But let’s look at one more defensive lineman that could end up an Eagle before the draft.

Could Adetomiwa Adebawore be the pick at 30? Does his freaky athleticism suggest he could be more productive in the NFL?

Here are 5 things you should know about Adetomiwa Adebawore

  • One of the Most Impressive Combine Performances Ever

Adetomiwa Adebawore put on quite the show at the combine. In fact, he may have given the best combine performance for someone over 280 lbs in Combine history. His 4.49-second 40-yard dash is the fastest for any player his size. His broad jump of 10’5” is 2nd for someone his size since 2003, and his 37.5” vertical is 3rd highest in that time. His overall performance puts him in rare company. Only JJ Watt, Mario Williams, and Rashan Gary put up similar performances for someone their size.

Big, strong, and fast. Three traits you can’t teach. He repeated this performance at his Pro Day too. Athleticism does not always guarantee success. But it definitely makes it easier. And you know you are at the very least getting someone with elite athleticism in Adebawore.

The on-field numbers are not quite there yet. They were by now means bad. He recorded 5 sacks this last season and 22 QB pressures. He also forced 2 fumbles and racked up 9 tackles for a loss. Not eye-popping numbers, but he was still a productive player. And his athletic profile has scouts thinking that he could be a much larger threat in the NFL.

  • How to Pronounce His Name

We Philly fans are infamous for butchering names. Even ones that are easy to say. We add S’s where they don’t belong like with Alshon Jeffrey. Halapoulivaati Vaitai helped us win a Super Bowl, but many Eagles fans still can’t pronounce his name right. We couldn’t even say Roy Halladay right. So a name like Adetomiwa Adebawore is sure to give us fits. So let’s get how to say his name out of the way now.

His first name is pronounced add-e-TOMMY-wah.

And his last name is pronounced add-E-BAR-eh.

Apparently, he often goes by Tommy. But even if that is what we call him, if he ends up an Eagle it is worth at least knowing how to say his name. Though the Eagles beat writers will likely have to spend the first several months constantly double-checking to make sure they spelled his name right if he does end up an Eagle. I mean just in writing this article I had to double-check each spelling of his name 5 times.

  • Howie Roseman is Apparently in Love With Him

Last year, one man was all over Cam Jurgens landing with the Eagles. Tony Pauline of The Pro Football Network. This is what Pauline said about Jurgens in an article last year.

“I’ve always felt Jurgens on Day 2 is much better value than Linderbaum in the first round. So, where does the Nebraska junior end up? Sources say Jurgens does not get past the Philadelphia Eagles’ 51st pick at the latest.”

Well, he is linking the Eagles to a guy on the other side of the line this year. Adetomiwa Adebawore. Tony mocked him to the Eagles in his most recent mock draft at pick 30. And on The Pro Football Network podcast, he said that he is hearing Howie Roseman loves him. Given how on the money he was with connecting Jurgens to the Eagles, there could very well be real smoke here if he is now connecting them to Adebawore.

  • A High School Shotput Champion

Football is not the only sport Adebawore excelled at. He was also a champion Shot putter in high school. Not only did he win the Missouri State Champion, but he also broke a state record. His throw of 62 feet, and 7 inches was nearly a foot further than the prior record. Even more impressive is that he entirely reinvented his throw for that track and field season. He went from being what is known as a glider, to doing a full spin technique. Whatever change he made, evidently it worked.

  • Versatility Along The Line

What likely has Howie in love with him is partly his ability to play all along the line. In his first two seasons, he spent most of his time lined up outside the tackles. But as he gained size, they used him more and inside in the B Gap. He played 488 snaps lined up outside the tackle in 2021, and 19 in the B Gap. Last season he played 374 snaps Outside the tackles, and 261 in the B Gap.

He showed up to Northwestern much smaller. But now at 282 lbs, he has the size to slide inside. And he did so very effectively.

That versatility should allow him to get more snaps early on than if he could only play inside or out. The Eagles have some needs both inside and out. The Eagles love to use a lot of different fronts. The more places he can play along those various fronts, the more chances he will have to get on the field.
