Eagles fans got a crappy start to the week when news came out Sunday night that the Lions were signing CJ Gardner-Johnson to a 1 year deal for as much as $8 million dollars. While it hurt to see a priority leave, it hurt even worse when Eagles fans saw the price the Lions paid, because it didnt seem like that much.
Zach Berman from The Athletic joined the John Kincade Show on Tuesday morning to discuss the decision to move on from CJ Gardner-Johnson, what the Eagles mindset was, and what they could still do in free agency.
“They went into free agency prepared to lose players, and I think they let the market come to them, especially in Bradberry’s case… I think going into free agency, if you had told me that they would keep Slay and Bradberry, I think most fans would’ve taken that… Given all of the possibilities that could’ve occurred, it hasn’t been a bad outcome for the Eagles.”
Its not like the Eagles have not made a flurry of moves. They worked quickly to replace CJ Gardner-Johnson by signing Justin Evans. They also brought in Nick Morrow Tuesday. Their biggest moves have been bringing back players from last year’s team. They have resigned a slew of vets including Fletcher Cox, Jason Kelce, Brandon Graham, and James Bradberry. So what was their gameplan?
“They went into free agency prepared to lose players, and I think they let the market come to them, especially in Bradberry’s case… I think going into free agency, if you had told me that they would keep Slay and Bradberry, I think most fans would’ve taken that… Given all of the possibilities that could’ve occurred, it hasn’t been a bad outcome for the Eagles.”
