Tim McManus- “Howie Roseman is Not Going to Leave This Thing Bare”
It would be understandable for fans to be a little bit worried as they watch Eagles free agents sign elsewhere. Yes, they brought Brandon Graham and Jason Kelce back. But they also already lost Javon Hargrave, and TJ Edwards. And James Bradberry, CJ Gardner-Johnson, and many others could still leave. Does Howie Roseman deserve some patience as he tries to work through a difficult free agency period though? Tim McManus from ESPN joined The Best Show Ever earlier today and suggested some patience might be required this off-season.
“Probably people in Philadelphia will be freaking out after the first wave. You are going to lose so many key guys from that Super Bowl run. But I don’t think Howie Roseman will leave this thing bare. Look at Hargrave as an example. The first time he signed here it was to a very reasonable contract. Now that thing has ballooned. The Eagles will be living in the more reasonable contract range. Looking for veterans at a discount, or guys who didn’t cash in on the first wave of this free agency frenzy. There is going to have to be some patience here.”
He was also sure to add that the defense will look much less talented than it was last year. Which was always to be expected. The Eagles built a super team last year by making a ton of one-year deals. It let them build the most talented roster we have seen in a long time. But it also meant that they were going to have many free agents. And with the Jalen Hurts extension coming, they would never be able to keep them all.
But Howie Roseman has shown he can get creative. And he is usually very busy in the 2nd round of free agency as Tim McManus mentioned. So before panicking, it may be best to wait and see what happens. Early free agency will look ugly. They will lose more players than they keep or acquire. But Howie won’t just leave the cupboards completely bare. And as the offseason continues, we could see some smart moves to try and make up for the talent they are unfortunately losing. There are always some players who don’t like the offers they are getting and will take a one-year prove-it deal. Don’t count Howie Roseman out yet.
