The Audio Vault- 4th and 26
Yesterday they could not take a dive into the Audio Vault, because it was All-Star Day. But yesterday marked the anniversary of a lot of big NFL and Eagles playoff moments. So even though it is a day late, Andrew grabbed those moments out of The Audio Vault yesterday and played them for us today. Here is the lineup of great Eagles and NFL moments that had their anniversary yesterday, including the famous 4th and 26 play.
Wilbert Montgomery
Yesterday, in 1981, the Eagles beat the Cowboys in the NFC Championship game. And it all started with a 42-yard TD run by Wilbert Montgomery. The Eagles went on to win 20-7, to advance to the Superbowl. Of course, that ended in disappointment with a 27-10 loss to the Raiders. But the win over the Cowboys is obviously still a great memory, especially for Anthony who was in attendance.
4th and 26
Yesterday also marked the anniversary of the 4th and 26 play. Donovan McNabb and The Eagles were backed up in a 4th and 26 situation after a penalty and a long sack. It was the 4th quarter, with under 2 to go, and they trailed by 3. Mcnabb dropped back and released a deep slant pass to Freddie Mitchell, who caught it with just enough yard to convert the 1st down. They went on to kick a game-tying field goal to force OT and then hit another FG in OT to win the game. Like with the Wilbert Montgomery play, this season for the eagles ended in disappointment with a loss to the Panthers in the NFC Championship. But every Eagles fan still knows what you mean when you say 4th and 26.
Other Great NFL Playoff Moments Taht Happened Yesterday
That was it for the great Eagles playoffs moments that had their anniversaries yesterday. But there were a couple of notable NFL moments too that had nothing to do with the Eagles. Including the Music City Miracle. And also Tebowmania where Tim Tebow and the Broncos beat the Steelers in the Playoffs on the first play of OT when he found Demaryius Thomas on a slant, who did the rest of the work dodging tackles to take it to the house.
