The Eagles face off with their NFC East rival Giants this Sunday in the Meadowlands. And to get some insight into the matchup, Anthony Gargano talked to Zach Berman of The Athletic. What matchups favor the Eagles? How should the Eagles attack the Giants’ defense? And how should they defend the Giants’ offense? Zach Berman discusses that and more. Here is some of what he had to say.
On Matchup Favoring the Eagles…
“The Eagles have such an advantage. Especially on the outside of both lines of scrimmage. With the Eagles WRs against the Giants Corners, and the Eagles Corners against the Giants WRs. It’s going to be hard for the Giants to move the ball through the air. And the Eagles should be able to move the ball, I’d say without a problem, against this Giants secondary. Adoree’ Jackson is going to be out. The Giants aren’t going to be able to keep pace with the Eagles…. Going into the Packers game, you thought they could run on the Packers. Going into the Titans game you thought they could throw on the Titans. And going into the Giants game you can run and throw…”
On Jalen Hurts vs the Giants’ defense…
“The thing to watch is the Giants like to blitz. But Jalen has handled the blitz decently. The teams that have had the most success have blitzed them. But if you are blitzing, and keep man coverage, Jalen is going to run all day. The Giants like to blitz, but they blitz in man. And if you blitz in man you are very vulnerable to a QB who can escape the pocket… What they should be focusing on is blitz beaters.”
On Gameplan for Eagles Defense…
“The key for the Eagles will be getting pressure on (Daniel Jones). Because I don’t think the Giants have the Wide Receivers or the Tight Ends to threaten the Eagles’ secondary. Where I think the Eagles are vulnerable is in the middle of the field. If they can get after the Giants, then there will not be enough time, and it is going to be a blowout. I don’t really see a pass at the Giants winning the game unless weather neutralizes the field.”
