It seems like it’s been weeks since the Flyers defeated the Blues (5-1), but it was just this past Tuesday. A win that created so much spark and energy not just on the ice, but in the locker room. The celebration was short lived as the Flyers entered their first losing streak of the season.
Flyers @ Blue Jackets
Just like players; coaches can be welcomed back too. John Tortorella was the head coach of the Blue Jackets from the 2015-2016 season to the 2020-2021 shorted season. Tortorella was the winningest coach in Columbus’ history. The Blue Jackets gave a video montage of Torts being Torts.
The game went down hill when Johnny Gaudreau put the Blue Jackets up early in the first. The New Jersey native expressed interest in playing for the Flyers but due to management decisions, the accusation never happened.
After a dreadful game, the Blue Jackets defeated the Flyers 5-2. Tortorella refused to speak to media following the game.
Flyers VS. Senators
The former Captain, Giroux, returned to the Wells Fargo Center for the first time since his trade to the Florida Panthers that took place at the trade deadline last season and since then returned to play for his hometown team; the Ottawa Senators. As the longest tenured captain of Flyers history making his way onto the ice again; Giroux was welcomed with a video montage.
Wade Allison was forced to leave the game towards the end of the second period facing injury. The focus on Giroux’s return quickly turned into concern for the young winger.
The Senators overpowered the Flyers defeating Philadelphia 4-1.
Flyers VS. Stars
Dallas dominated the game since the minute they took the ice beating the Flyers 5-1. With an ugly score, Tortorella was quick to defend his team. After the game Tortorella said to the media, “I’m very pleased with the effort. I don’t give a s— what people think about out here.” While the score doesn’t reflect to the entity of the effort on ice it leads for concerns with that first period where the Flyers have been down by two in at least 15 of their games already this season.
