Tim McManus On How Fletcher Cox Has Looked In Camp
Tim McManus joined the “Best Show Ever?’ earlier today, and gave us some updates from Eagles’ camp, including how Fletcher Cox has looked so far, what he has seen from the backup QBs, what players to look out for in the first preseason game, and more. Here is some of what he had to say.
On What He’s Seen From Fletcher Cox in Camp
“Id be lying to you if I said he’s been flashing all over the place this camp. I don’t know if you necessarily need him to. The reports that were getting from the coaches have been positive. Like Tracy Rocker, I asked him specifically about Cox the other day. He said he loves what he is seeing out of him. Noted that he’s been a mentor to some of these young guys. Thinks he’s in good shape. And that’s good to hear. But what you want to see is him get out of what he’s been in the last two years, and return closer to the Fletcher Cox we’ve been accustomed to. He still remains a central piece of this team. So they need to get some serious production out of him.”
On Why The Eagles Value Joint Practices
“That’s where they kind of see the main value of this summer is getting those reps in. They feel like that is some of the most valuable work they get because it’s in a controlled setting. They’re going up against unfamiliar defensive schemes, and unfamiliar personnel. And they get to have those 1’s vs 1’s. the first team offense, going up against the first team defense of the Browns and the Dolphins to see what they have and see what wrinkles they need to iron out. And for them, that’s a big part of the thinking of why they don’t do a whole lot of preseason action for their starters anymore. Now does that really get you ready for the start of Football, you could argue against that. But for them, that’s where they see the most value.”
