By Matt Minarik
According to his agent, former Philadelphia Phillies 1B/OF Jeremy Giambi has died at the age of 47. The 1996 sixth-round pick of the Kansas City Royals played most of his career with the Oakland Athletics. He was the younger brother of Jason Giambi. They were teammates on the Athletics from 2000-01.
In May of 2002, the Phillies acquired Giambi in a trade with the Athletics for Utility player John Mabry. He appeared in 82 games, batting .244 with 12 Home Runs and 28 RBIs. On December 15, 2002, Giambi was traded to the Boston Red Sox for Pitcher Josh Hancock.
Our condolences go out to the entire Giambi family.
