Flyers Trade Voracek For Atkinson
Another day, another Flyers trade. The Flyers have dealt long time winger Jake Voracek to Columbus for Cam Atkinson. Its a straight one for one trade. The Flyers will save a substantial ammount of cap space in this move, as Voracek was scheduled to make $8.25 million until 2024. Atkinson is signed until 2025 but at only $5.875
While Voracek is the more “productive” player, I think the Flyers did well with this trade (unlike Fridays move) as they shed salary and dont see a huge drop off in production. Atkinson had 34 points last season in 56 games for the Bluejackets.
The Flyers are sending Voracek back to the team that originally drafted him. The Flyers acquired Voracek, along with the 8th overall pick (Sean Couturier) for Jeff Carter back in 2011 in the famous “dry island purge.” The Flyers absoultey won that trade as they saw Couturier blossom into a Selke winner, and Voracek total 604 points in 727 games in a Flyers sweater.
Cant wait to see what move Chuck Fletcher decides to surprise us with tomorrow….
