GLENDALE, ARIZONA - FEBRUARY 12: Nick Sirianni of the Philadelphia Eagles reacts during the second quarter against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII at State Farm Stadium on February 12, 2023 in Glendale, Arizona.

If you know Anthony Gargano, you know he is restless waiting for some Football. He starts thinking about the next Football season precisely an hour after the Super Bowl ends. So when training camp comes around, meaning the first kickoff is just over a month away, you know he is already in full Football geek mode. Football is almost here. Soon we will learn if this new roaster, and the new coordinators, can match what last year’s team did. And to geek out over the upcoming season, he had The Athletic’s Zach Berman on his show to preview some of what we may see this upcoming season.

They got into everything Eagles related. Can the offense look as good this year as it did last year? What kind of role will D’Andre Swift have this season? Will the two new coordinators, Sean Desai and Brian Johnson, fill the shoes of the guys they are replacing? Does Sydney Brown have a shot to win the starting job? Will Jordan Davis take a step forward this season? Could the Eagles’ starting Linebacker alongside Nakobe Dean be someone they trade for before the season starts?

They discussed all of that and more. See why Zach Berman has confidence in the Eagles’ new coordinators and more, from his conversation with Anthony Gargano. The full interview is available at the bottom of the page.

Here are 7 things Zach Berman had to say when he joined Anthony Gargano:

  • The Offense Is Going to Have To Change

The Eagles’ offense was fantastic last year. But we know in the NFL that teams always adjust. Defensive Coordinators all over the league were working hard this summer to find ways to limit the Eagles. And if the Eagles don’t change things up, even if it is just a little bit, they may find themselves struggling to match the production from last season. A sentiment Zach Berman echoed when he talked to Anthony.

  • D'Andre Could Have a Large Role in the Eagles Pass Game

The Eagles surprised everyone on day 3 of the draft by acquiring D’Andre Swift from the Lions. And according to Berman, they may have made that trade with plans to utilize him a decent amount in their passing game.

In camp, they have already used him in some unique ways. Lining him up outside. Putting him in motion. It seems they view him as more than just an RB. They did not really utilize the RBs in the passing game much last season. But as Zach mentioned, the offense will need to involve. So maybe having a dynamic back catching passes out of the backfield, or elsewhere, is part of their plans to add some new wrinkles to the offense.

  • Jordan Davis's Expectations for This Season

Jordan Davis had a bit of a disappointing rookie season. With such a deep rotation at DT, he struggled to get consistent snaps. But hopes are high for this season. He came into camp in great shape and is getting a chance at first-team reps. Zach Berman told Anthony that his natural talent really sticks out.

  • Eagles May Be In The Linebacker Market

Last year it was clear the Eagles had a need at Safety going into camp. They had Marcus Epps, a UDFA in Reed Blankenship, and K’von Wallace. So before the season started, they went out and acquired CJ Gardner-Johnson from the Saints. He went on to lead the league in interceptions. And Zach Berman thinks they could do something similar at Linebacker this year.

  • Sydney Brown Is Pushing to Start

In a draft class that includes Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith, Sydney Brown is still getting a fair bit of hype. People inside the Eagles have been effusive with their praise of him, and every Eagles beat guy thinks he has a chance to be starting this year. And Zach Berman did not break from that. While Reed Blankenship and Terrell Edmunds currently are on track to start, Zach Berman thinks the Eagles did not draft him to be a backup. And even if it is not as a starter, he sees him contributing right away.

  • Brian Johnson Would Have Been an OC Somewhere if Not Here

Brian Johnson has had hype around him since he came here from Florida. The second he was hired as the QB Coach, people were saying he was a future OC and a future Head Coach. And if they had not promoted him this off-sean, Zach Berman says it is likely he would be calling plays elsewhere. He told Anthony a lot of head coaches were calling Brian Johnson this offseason trying to hire him. It is just lucky Shane Steichen left when he did, otherwise, they may be without Shane and Brian.

  • Sean Desai is Super Smart

Zach Berman also had praise for the Eagles’ other new coordinator. Sean Desai replaced Jonathan Gannon. Something Eagles fans were very happy to see. It will be easy to win over fans. They are happy with anyone that is not Gannon. Especially after he was a snake and took a job in secret while prepping for the Super Bowl, and then got outcoached in that Super Bowl. But will Desai actually be good at the job? Berman seemed to think so.
