Well, the Eagles were bound to lose at some point. They were in the hardest part of a schedule any team had this season and were undefeated in it up until now. They were not going to go 7-0 in those games. But did they have to lose like that?

The 49ers didn’t just beat the Eagles, they embarrassed them. The same way they embarrassed the Cowboys and the Jaguars. The Eagles hung around for about two drives, before giving up 6 straight TDs to eventually lose 42-19. It exposed some major issues at linebacker and Safety. And it has a lot of people questioning how real their 10-2 record is.

Let’s have some perspective though. This Eagles team beat the Dolphins, Chiefs, Cowboys, and Bills. It’s not like they were riding a cupcake schedule and then got smacked when they finally faced a good team. They played a very bad game against a very good team. And it would be completely fair to now look at the 49ers as the superior team. After all the 49ers haven’t just been blowing out bad teams, looking at you Cowboys, they are blowing out the best teams they face. Lifting up the 49ers after that game is fair. But it is not the Eagles getting exposed.

This team is flawed. They are not as good as they were last year. Because last year’s team was near perfect until they forgot how to defend in the Super Bowl. There are a lot of flawed teams in the NFL though.

The good news is they are still atop the standings. They have less room for error, but they still control their own destiny. Have they taken a tumble in the Power Rankings though? What is the National media saying about them after that blowout?

Here is a roundup of the week 14 Power Rankings:

• ESPN- 2 (Previously 1)

  “The Eagles’ special teams group turned from a weakness in 2022 to a strength this season. Philadelphia entered Week 13 with the No. 1 special teams ranking in the NFL, per ESPN’s Football Power Index. Britain Covey is third in punt return average (14 yards per return), Jake Elliott is 6-of-7 on field goal attempts of 50-plus yards, and the coverage units have been sound.”

  Dropping Eagles to 2 is completely fair. Even with the better record, it would be very hard to justify keeping the Eagles over the Niners after that game. And as for the Special Teams thing, it is maybe the only part of the Eagles that is better this year. To be fair they were awful last year, so there was a lot of room for improvement. But they went from the worst Special teams to maybe the best. Punter Braden Mann in particular deserves a shoutout.

  “It was a stunning sight in such a big game at the Linc, even if the Eagles are allowed to lose one every now and then. But it’s the first time in a few years where they’ve really been outclassed.”

  In the past 2 seasons, the Eagles have just 4 losses with Hurts at QB. The Jets and Washington losses were just kind of down games, but they had a chance to win. The Super Bowl was incredibly close. But Sunday was a mess. It is the worst they have looked since they lost to the Bucs in the playoffs two years ago.

• The Athletic- 5 (Previously 1)

  “Philadelphia is third in the league in rushing EPA this season, according to TruMedia, but when its run game falters, it usually isn’t pretty. The Eagles have been held to a total of 126 rushing yards and 3.2 yards per carry in their two losses. The results were a loss to the Jets and Sunday’s drubbing by the 49ers.”

  Dropping the Eagles to 5, below the Ravens, and two teams they have beaten in the Cowboys and Dolphins, is incredibly dumb. Do they forget this Cowboys team also got embarrassed by the Niners? The Cowboys have beaten one team .500 or above. The Eagles have wins over The Cowboys, Chiefs, Bills, Dolphins, and Vikings. The Dolphins got beat by every decent team they played too. You don’t get to play the Commanders in the playoffs. Maybe the Cowboys and Dolphins should have to prove it vs good teams, like the Eagles have, before you crown them.

  “The Eagles can’t allow the 49ers loss to linger. The Cowboys are up next. The Eagles are still OK in the NFC East race even if they lose, due to tiebreakers, but they can’t afford to lose their grip on the No. 1 seed. If the game against the 49ers was that lopsided in Philadelphia, what would a playoff rematch in San Francisco look like?”

  All fair. The 49ers seem tailor-made to take advantage of the Eagles’ biggest weaknesses. They just dumped it off short, and let their playmakers burn a mediocre Linebacker and Safety room. There was no reason to watch that game and be confident in a rematch unless something changes.

  “So they head to Dallas, where they’ve lost five in a row, to face scalding QB Dak Prescott while hindered by the league’s fourth-worst pass defense. Sounds like a good recipe to fall from the NFC’s No. 1 seed to its fifth by next Monday … unless Philly’s newly signed linebacker can make a heckuva instant difference here.”

  They already played Dallas, and they did put up big numbers on the defense, but the Eagles still won. Why are we acting like these teams haven’t met? The Cowboys are not the Niners. They don’t have 5 different guys who can kill you. Dak may have a big game like he did last time. But this idea that the Eagles have no hope is bonkers when they already beat this team.
