PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - NOVEMBER 05: Jalen Hurts #1 of the Philadelphia Eagles reacts against the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field on November 05, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Eagles come out of the bye week 8-1, the best record in the NFL. Hopefully, the bye week helped them get a bit healthier. We will see if it helped them in that way on Monday when they play the Chiefs. But what is most important is they go into week 11 in a great position in both their division and conference. They led the NFC East by 2 games, and the NFC by 1 game. They are the only 1 loss team in the entire NFL. Have there been issues? Sure. But every team has issues, the Eagles just win despite them.

In terms of the NFC Race, the bye week did nothing to help the Eagles. The Cowboys, 49ers, Lions, and Seahawks all won. And 3 of them looked pretty good in the process of doing so. Granted the Cowboys were playing the Giants who may just be the worst team in the NFL. But still, in terms of where they stand in the NFC, things got tighter.

Still, they are in a very good spot. And while their schedule gets harder, so does the schedule of most of their competition. The Cowboys don’t get to play the Giants again. Instead, they eventually have games vs the Lions, Dolphins, and Bills, plus the Eagles. The 49ers still have to play the Ravens, the Seahawks twice, and the Eagles. And while the Eagles have a tough 5 game stretch, they finish out their year with two games vs the Giants and a game vs the Cardinals. The Lions are the only NFC team you could say has an easy schedule the rest of the way.

But are they still on top of the Power Rankings after the bye week? Or did having the week off make the National Media forget how good they are?

Here is where the Eagles fell in the Week 11 Power Rankings

“The Eagles hold a two-game lead on the Cowboys but play a trio of contenders in the Chiefs, Bills and 49ers — who have 18 combined wins this season — before their trip to Dallas. The Cowboys have a friendlier slate with the Panthers, Commanders and Seahawks — 11 combined wins — up next. The division race could be tight when the NFC East rivals square off again on Dec. 10.”

This is true. But what it leaves out is after that game the Cowboys have Bills, Dolphins, and Lions, whereas Eagles have Seahawks, Giants, Cardinals, and then Giants again. Based solely on winning percentage, the Cowboys have a tougher schedule going forward. they just have it easier the next 3 weeks. But looking at the full picture, the Eagles have a lot of wiggle room.

“Philadelphia is 8-1, but it will be surprising if the team doesn’t drop at least one game in that gauntlet. A 3-2 mark would be very respectable. The beleaguered pass defense will get a serious test during this next month; we should find out if this is the team’s Achilles’ heel, or if it’s something the Eagles can overcome with their pass rush and/or an offense that was starting to cook before the break.”

3-2 should be the goal. They did enough before this stretch that they dont need to be perfect. And their opponents have their own gauntlets coming up that should give them a couple of losses. If the Eagles go 3-2, then they will finish either 14-3 or 13-4. Either should be enough to win the NFC East and the Conference. The only team that could maybe do better are the Lions, who have a very soft schedule the rest of the way.

“The bye had to come at a good time with Jalen Hurts a bit banged up. Now comes a really tough stretch of games starting Monday against the Chiefs.”

Eagles have been better against teams with winning records than almost any team in Football the past couple of seasons. In the regular season, he has not lost any games to teams with winning records in the past two seasons. if any team is built to survive a tough gauntlet like this, it is the Eagles and Jalen Hurts.

James Palmer on Twitter: "Jalen Hurts is now 10-0 against teams with a winning record since 2022. That's best among all QBs with 5+ such starts since 2022. Hurts is also 12-1 including the playoffs, with his lone loss vs KC in Super Bowl LVII / Twitter"

“Since going 9-8 in 2021, Nick Sirianni is 22-4 as the Eagles’ coach. He took Philadelphia to the Super Bowl last season and is beloved in the city for his fiery personality on top of it. It’s hard to imagine a better marriage of city and coach than what the Eagles have at the moment, just like it’s hard to imagine Sirianni not being in Philadelphia for a long time.”

Nick Sirianni for some reason gets no love. No one has a better record than him these past two seasons. Yet he is never listed among the top coaches in the league. Is it because he just does the job of a head coach and doesn’t insist on being the playcaller? If you want to say Kyle Shanahan is a better Offensive Coordinator, we can talk. But in terms of doing the stuff the Head Coach is supposed to do, Nick absolutely deserves to be listed among the best.

Andrew DiCecco on Twitter: "Per the #Eagles game notes: Including playoffs, Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts have teamed for a 32-11 record. Per Elias Sports, that record is tied for 5th-most wins by a head coach/QB tandem in their first 43 games together since the 1970 merger. / Twitter"

“Hope you’re rested, fellas – especially you, Jalen Hurts (knee). Philadelphia kicks off a five-game obstacle course against some of the league’s elite teams Monday night with a Super Bowl 57 rematch at Kansas City. And with TE Dallas Goedert dealing with a broken forearm, a fifth-ranked offense is down one significant element. Seems like a lot of negativity here, but this is a team with 8-1 starts in consecutive seasons and one well-equipped to persevere now that its inevitable regular-season test has arrived.”

Good to see someone point it out. It feels like even when the Eagles are put at 1 on these rankings, it is still constant negativity. And there are valid critiques, but as the USA Today writer pointed out, they are well-equipped to overcome them. Even without Goedert they still have Brown, Smith, Swift, and a great O-Line.

“The Eagles take back the top spot but it might not last long. Their next five games are at Chiefs, vs. Bills, vs. 49ers, at Cowboys, at Seahawks. On the other hand, if they win four or five of those games there will be little doubt over who’s the best team in the NFL.”

Even if they only win 3 there should be no doubt. Because if they win 3 of these five, that would be 5-2 in what people called the gauntlet, leaving out the Commanders game. Saying they need to go undefeated in that stretch, which is what 5 wins would mean, to prove themselves is insane. No one else is held to that standard.

“Will next Monday’s Super Bowl rematch also be a Super Bowl preview?”

Just based on what they have done this year, it certainly seems like the most likely scenario. To this point, they are the teams that have taken care of their own business the most in both conferences. That doesn’t mean they make it, but they are the two teams who should be favorites.
