It’s Tuesday, November 8th. Midterm election day. It’s a time for us to exercise one of our most sacred rights as U.S. Citizens, and also time for those annoying political campaign ads to end. In Philly, you can argue we care as much about our sports as our politics, though, and sometimes those roads intersect. We have great players in this city, but we also have great players who are great leaders. Here are the top 5 current Philly athletes that should consider running for public office… because they just might be able to actually win. Stranger things have happened.

5.) Tyrese Maxey

He’s young, but man does he represent Philadelphia well. Maxey is always smiling, always having a good time, and handles his business while keeping things light. I actually wouldn’t want to corrupt such a purely happy person with a career in politics, but the Sixers’ young guard could just flash that million dollar smile and probably pass any policy that he wants. If he continues his meteoric rise on and off the court, maybe some write in votes are in his future.

4.) James Harden

He’s still relatively new to Philly, but look at how he’s already taken a salary cut to help the Sixers budget! That type of economic policy could do wonders for Philadelphia, and Harden is also well known for helping stimulate the local economy by handing out single dollar bills to local workers. Also, who doesn’t love a politician with an awesome beard? I think there are some people that would certainly consider casting a vote for the beard.

3.) Bryce Harper

We already saw Bryce Harper for Governor signs throughout the Phillies playoff run, so the public support is clearly there. He might be the greatest panderer in the history of Philadelphia, which plays a huge part in winning votes, plus rumor is that the phanatic would potentially be part of his cabinet. Leadership, quiet fire, and the ability to hit a baseball to the moon? Sounds like someone I would vote for.

2.) Jalen Hurts

The signal caller for the undefeated Eagles is pretty much already a political figure in Philadelphia. If QB1 said that taxes are going up but threw in an analogy about coffee beans or money on the table, I think people would actually applaud him for it. I would follow Hurts into a burning building without question, so he very well could be the best potential public official in Philly sports right now, if it wasn’t for this man…

1.) Jason Kelce

It could only have been him. He’s basically the mayor, the Hulk and the coolest person on the planet all rolled into one. Jason Kelce is the face of Philadelphia sports, and we already know he’s one hell of a speech maker. He’s also the closest of these players to retirement, making this one actually not that crazy. This post is just for fun, but Kelce could probably legitimately win a local election. He’s the quintessential Philly athlete, and Philly person, and we’re lucky to have him here.
