The Philadelphia Eagles are reeling after three consecutive losses. They now face the heaviest adversity of the 2023 NFL season. They’ll enter Week 16 against the New York Giants without at least one of their key starters after Darius Slay recently underwent surgery.
Eagles Facing Adversity
The three-game losing streak has sent shockwaves of panic throughout the fan base. It looked bad at Lincoln Financial Field against the 49ers. It got a lot worse in Dallas. The low point of the season came in Seattle.
The Eagles have struggled with the same weaknesses throughout the 2023 season, and their recent opponents have exposed their flaws brutally.
Jalen Hurts threw two more interceptions against the Seahawks. He has turned the ball over 17 times during the 2023 season. The Giants don’t look like an overwhelming opponent at 5-9. However, the Eagles can’t overlook any opponent given their circumstances.
Nick Sirianni has begun his NFL head coaching career with a 33-15 record in regular-season games. He now faces the greatest challenge of his tenure with the Eagles.
Projected Philadelphia Eagles Week 16 Starters
Slay and Zach Cunnigham both missed the loss against the Seattle Seahawks. Kelee Ringo, Eli Ricks, and Josh Jobe all rotated in for Slay at cornerback. Nicholas Morrow played every defensive snap while Shaq Leonard increased his role with the team’s best linebacker unavailable.
Cam Jurgens missed his sixth game of the season because of a pec injury. Sua Opeta started in his place.
Sydney Brown also played a more significant role on defense even with a healthy Reed Blankenship in the lineup. The rookie third-rounder struggled to finish tackles and stick in coverage, so it will be interesting to see if Matt Patricia continues to use him in a rotational role.
With the need for a bounce-back effort, Sirianni hopes to have his roster at full strength.
