INGLEWOOD, CALIFORNIA - NOVEMBER 24: Jalen Hurts #1 of the Philadelphia Eagles throws a pass during the second quarter against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on November 24, 2024 in Inglewood, California.

The divisional round is set. It will be Eagles vs Rams, In Philly, at 3 pm on Sunday. The Rams, even while displaced from their usual home field, sent the Vikings packing fairly easily, to set up a rematch from the Week 12 Clash back in November.

That 1st matchup was all Eagles. The Eagles won 37-20, and honestly, it was a bigger blowout than that. The Rams scored a completely meaningless TD in the final minute of the game, and before that drive, they held the Rams to just about 230 yards and 13 points. After the Rams racked up 123 yards on their first two drives of the game, the Rams managed just 118 yards on their next 7.

The Eagles’ offense meanwhile had their way. They didn’t even have their usual slow start. Saquon Barkley tore the Rams apart, with 255 yards and 2 TDs. He had 9.8 yards per carry. The Eagles had no DeVonta Smith, but AJ brown still racked up 109 yards and a TD.

So will this week be a repeat? Do the Eagles just have the Ram’s number? Let’s start by looking at both offenses.

You hear a lot about the scary Rams offense, but is it? The Rams are 15th in yards per game and 20th in points per game. You might say that they started slow because of injuries, and came on strong late, but is that true? It certainly is for their record, but not so much for their results on offense.

Since they turned things around as a team, they still only average 22.5 points per game. The 44-42 win over the Bills is the outlier. Outside that game, they average 20.4 points per game. Even if you only take games Puka Nacua started and finished, they still only average 22.8 points per game.

So whose offense is better? We went position by position, to see which offense has the advantage.

Let’s break down Which Team Has The Better Offense, the Eagles or the Rams:

  • QB- Eagles

This one was close. Matthew Stafford is a very accomplished QB. He is one of only 2 QBs left standing who has won a Super Bowl. But he is also 36, and not quite the player he used to be. His 20 TDs this season are the fewest he has ever had in a complete season and his 7.3 yards per attempt is middle of the pack for his career.

Stafford attempted about 150 more passes than Hurts this year (the equivalent of 4-5 extra games, yet only has 2 more TDs and 800 more yards. Hurts has the better completion rate (68.7 vs 65.8), the better Yards Per attempt (8.0 vs 7.3), and the better TD-to-INT ratio (3.6 to 2.5). Throw the run game into the mix and it is not even close. Stafford was never mobile, but now he can’t run at all. For most of the season, he was the only QB without a scramble.

The one area Stafford has a massive advantage is avoiding sacks. Sacks are not always on the O-Line. Hurts has 11 sacks attributed to himself, and not the O-Line or blockers being beat. Stafford has only 3. Stafford is a veteran and it shows. He may not move well, but he knows how to handle pressure. Hurts passing numbers are good vs pressure, but he sometimes runs himself into trouble and holds onto the ball too long. With a O-Line this great, he should almost never be sacked but Hurts causes problems for himself, whereas Stafford is often in complete control.

That said, Hurts has a slight edge here. While he doesn’t have the Super Bowl like Stafford, he is still one of the more accomplished playoff QBs left standing. He didn’t have the best game in the 1st round, but it is not like Stafford lit the world on fire either. This was a close battle, but Jalen Hurts gets the advantage over the 36-year-old Stafford. Not just because of the running element, but because he has been overall a better passer this season too.

    Advantage Eagles

  • RB- Eagles

Kyren Williams has had a solid season. He is a good back. But this one isn’t even close and there isn’t a Rams fan who would even try to argue it. Saquon Barkley had a 2000-yard season. He averages 5.8 yards per carry vs Williams who averages 4.1. The only stats Williams leads in are catches, where he has 1 more, and TDs 1 more. But Williams doesn’t have a QB taking goal-line carries from him, and while Barkley has 1 less catch, he has almost 100 more receiving yards.

Williams is fine, but he is not a game-changer. Barkley changes the game every week. He can alter a game with 1 carry at any moment.

Eagles get the edge here by a mile.

  • WR- Rams

This one is slightly more complicated than it should be. We do not know how healthy AJ Brown is. Were he 100%, I would say Eagles. But he did not look himself vs the Packers. Only 1 catch and there were not a lot of times where he had great separation either. The fake Tush push was the only time we saw him streaking wide open.

Puka Nacua is a star. He is one of the best WRs in the league. Like Brown, he missed some time, but he was 3rd in the league with 90 yards per game. Nacua is 1st in the league in yards per route run, with AJ Brown 3rd. It is close between the 2 of them when they are both healthy. But if Brown is still banged up, it gets more complicated.

Where Eagles have the advantage is Devonta Smith vs Cooper Kupp. Kupp has oddly not been a factor in a while. He has only 82 yards over his last 4 games. He did put up 92 vs the Bills before that, but then vs the Saints, he had only 17. Smith has 355 yards and 3 TDs in his last 4 games. While Smith has come on strong, Kupp has kind of disappeared.

But the Rams get the advantage because of the rest of their WR core. Eagles not named Smith or Brown have 365 yards. 70 of those yards come from players not on the active roster. They had chances to step up. Brown and Smith both missed 4 games each. But no one ever picked up the slack. The Rams have two WRs not named Kupp or Nacua who have more than that themselves. If you go by the top 2, I would take the Eagles. But if you go by the group as a whole, the Rams are much deeper.

Advantage Rams. However if AJ Brown is fully healthy by Sunday, this flips to advantage Eagles.

  • TE- Eagles

Dallas Goedert, despite only playing 10 games, and being knocked out of 2 of those games early, had 496 yards and 2 TDs. The Rams TEs as a group had 459 and 3 TDs. One of their TEs, Tyler Higbee, is very much in question for Sunday’s game after being hospitalized with a chest injury after the Vikings Game. The Eagles’ second-best TE, Grant Calcaterra, had more yards than the Rams’ primary TE for most of the season, Colby Parkinson.

The Eagles take this one easily.

  • O-Line- Eagles

Not even close. Eagles have two All-Pro tackles and their LG and Center made the Pro Bowl. None of the Rams Linemen even made the Pro Bowl. The Eagles are 6th in Pass Block Win Rate, and 9th in Run Block Win Rate. The Rams are 20th and 12th. The Rams’ O-Line is fine, but the Eagles’ O-Line is the best in the league.

    Advantage Eagles.
