MASSACHUSETTS - MAY 09: Al Horford #42 of the Boston Celtic defends Joel Embiid #21 of the Philadelphia 76ers during the first quarter of game five of the Eastern Conference Second Round Playoffs at TD Garden on May 09, 2023 in Boston, Massachusetts.

See what Andrew Salciunas found in the Audio Vault today. Every day on The Anthony Gargano Show, Andrew dives into the Vault to pull out audio relevant to the day. Which they then play at 11 am. Today, there was only one option for what he would play. After the Sixers’ big win in game 5 over the Celtics, they relived it. Playing the best moments, as called by Tom McGinnis, in the Audio Vault today.

It was a great all-around game for everyone. Joel Embiid played like an MVP. 33 points, and 4 blocks. Harden played like a true point guard. he racked up 10 assists with just 2 turnovers. Tyrese Maxey finally woke up, going off for 30 points on 6-12 shooting from deep. Even Tobias Harris contributed on offense, racking up 16 points before getting in foul trouble. The Sixers wound up winning 115-103. Giving them a 3-2 series lead, meaning if they can win at home on Thursday night, they will take the series.

But before we get to that game 6, let’s revisit just how fun game 5 was. The raining 3s from Tyrese Maxey. The Embiid blocks. Danuel House randomly giving them points off the bench. Harden and Embiid running the pick-and-roll to perfection. it was a game so fun, it is worth living through twice.

Andrew replayed all those best moments in the Audio Vault today. You can listen to it all, along with Andrew and Anthony’s reaction, in the podcast at the bottom of the page.

  • Embiid Kicks The Scoring Off With a Fadeaway 3pter

You could tell things were going the Sixers way early. Embiid was behind the 3pt line and was D’ed up, with the shot clock dwindling. So he did something we have seen him do well before. Put up the fadeaway 3. And as it has done in the past it went in, giving the Sixers the quick 3-0 lead. He is 7 foot 2, and hitting fadeaway 3s. Easy to see why he is the MVP.

  • James Harden Steal Leads to a Tobias Harris Dunk

All yesterday, Anthony talked about how they needed more from Tobias Harris. They got that early. James Harden got the steal, found Harris in transition, and Harris dunked it.

  • Tobias Tips in Embiid Miss, Embiid Gets Block on other End, Maxey Nails the 3

It’s nice when you can fit 5 points into one short highlight. It started with an Embiid miss, but Harris got the rebound and tipped it back in. The Celtics tried to move quickly the other way, but Embiid rejected Marcus Smart, and the Sixers took it the other way, with James Harden finding Maxey for a 3.

  • Maxey Gets Another 3 Off of Embiid Screen

All year we saw the Embiid-Harden Pick game work to perfection. Well, we saw it work great with Maxey last night too. Including one he got early in the game, where he used Embiid to get open beyond the arc and nail his 2nd 3 of the game to put the Sixers up 6.

  • James Harden Hits 3 off of Jump Ball

Early in the 2nd quarter, the Sixers got tied up leading to a jump ball, with very little time left on the shot clock. But Harden did not need much time. He got the ball after they won the jump, put up a deep 3, and nailed it. It gave the Sixers a 10 pt lead.

  • De'Anthony Melton Block Leads to Danuel House Layup

Melton has not done much scoring after he scored 17 in game 1. But what he has given them is great defensive plays. Including a block, that led to a Danuel House transition layup the other way. And as you will hear Tom McGinnis say, was met by boos by the Boston crowd.

  • Tobias Harris Nails a 3

Later in the 2nd quarter, the Sixers kept pulling it up. Joel Embiid passed out of a double team, to find Tobias open behind the 3 pt line, and he nailed it. It was the 7th 3 of the game for the Sixers.

  • Embiid-Harden PNR Works to Perfection

We already mentioned the Embiid- Harden Pick and Roll, and at one point the Sixers went to it over and over again. Embiid sets the pick, Harden drives, he gets double-teamed, and finds Embiid open for an FT line jumper. They ran it over and over again, and it kept working.

  • Melton Steal and Layup

Melton kept making an impact on the defensive end. In the 3rd he poked the ball away, except this time he scooped it up himself and took it the other way. Sixers fans may have been nervous after Melton missed a similar layup in game 4. But this time there was no missing. It gave the Sixers a dominating 18-point lead.

  • Maxey's Floater Is Met By Loud Boos by Celtics Fans

It is nice to see Celtics fans be so miserable. And at one point a Maxey floater really brought out the boos from the Boston crowd, as they began to realize their team was not going to come back and win this one.

  • Harden Steal to House Layup

The game was really getting out of hand in the 4th. Including one moment where Harden got another steal and found House for yet another transition layup for him. It put them up 102-83

  • Embiid Makes Up for Turnover with a Huge Block

Embiid seemed to be getting a little bit tired late and had some turnovers. But on one of them, he made up for it in a big way. He coughed it up but got back on defense, where he sat down Jaylen Brown with a massive block.
