The Best Show Ever?: Weekdays 2pm – 6pm

HOUSTON, TEXAS - NOVEMBER 20: Montez Sweat #90 of the Washington Commanders celebrates a sack in the second quarter of a game against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium on November 20, 2022 in Houston, Texas.

The Eagles are 3-0. Even if the way people talk about the team does not reflect it. They have steadily looked a little better every week while remaining undefeated. They may not be blowing teams out of the water like the Dolphins and Niners, the other undefeated teams, are, but they are still winning. And this week, they try to make it 4-0 when the Commanders (still an awful team name) come to town.

The Commanders are 2-1 but are coming off a very ugly loss. The Bills beat them down by a score of 37-3. They were getting shut out until they hit an FG with 46 seconds left in the game. Sam Howell threw 4 picks, including one that went the other way for a TD. The Bills sacked Howell 9 times. And they let the Bills run for 168 yards on the ground. It was a good old-fashioned beat down, where the Commanders never really had a chance. And the Eagles will be looking to make it a sequel this Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Eagles should win this game. They are 8.5-point home favorites, and there is a clear talent gap between the two teams. But even though on paper it seems like it should be an easy win for the Eagles, there are still some things the Commanders do well.

To start, they have one of the better D-lines in the league. Their secondary has also held up pretty well too, giving up just 203 yards per game through the air per game. The Commanders did win their first two games, even if it was vs. the Cardinals and Broncos. So who are the players on the Commanders the Eagles need to look out for? Who could be giving them a hard time on Sunday?

Here are 6 Commanders Players Who Could Give The Eagles a Hard Time on Sunday:

  • Montez Sweat

The Commanders have their own pass rusher named Sweat who causes issues for the opponent. Sweat leads Washington with 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles. But he is not just a pass rusher, he is also an elite run-stopper on the edge. Lane Johnson has held up very well against him throughout the years, but he can also rush from the opposite side. And while I have no doubt Mailata can hold up against him as a run blocker, he can sometimes be beaten in pass protection. So Sweat is someone to watch.

  • Chase Young

Sweat is not the only dangerous pass rusher on the team though. Young has yet to fully live up to his hype coming out of Ohio State, thanks in large part to injuries. He has barely been on the field, and was outside of his rookie season, not super productive when on it. But he did have 1.5 sacks in his first game back in week 2. He was far more quiet in week 3, never getting much pressure on Josh Allen. But his talent level is high enough that you have to watch out for him.

  • Terry McLaurin

So far this season, McLaurin has not been the explosive threat he usually is. Being stuck with Sam Howell as your QB will do that. He is averaging just 42 yards per game so far. But he is still Terry McLaurin and is a threat to break a big play at any moment. If there is anyone to be worried about on the Commander’s offense, it is Scary Terry. He came into this year with 3 straight 1000-yard seasons, so don’t take him lightly no matter who is throwing to him.

  • Emmanuel Forbes

Before last week, Forbes was looking like a force as a rookie corner. He got a bit of a welcome to the NFL moment against the Bills. Gabe Davis blew by him, and then he got semi-benched, seeing far fewer snaps the rest of the game. But he looked pretty damn good in weeks 1 and 2 and has a pick and has 3 pass deflections. So while he is beatable deep, he can also be a playmaker. He will likely see a lot of Devonta Smith, a tough task for any corner, let alone a rookie.

  • Kendall Fuller

Fuller on the other hand has just been flat-out dominant all season long. In 3 games he has allowed just 5 receptions and only 1 in single coverage. He also got his first interception of the season last week against the Bills. Fuller is as good as it gets when it comes to corners, and whichever WR he lines up against, likely AJ Brown, will have their work cut out trying to get open. Not to say Brown can’t beat him, but it should be a fun matchup to watch.

  • Brian Robinson

To this point, Robinson is having a fantastic season. 265 combined yards, and he has 3 of the Commanders’ 6 TDs. He is averaging 4.6 yards per carry, and 72 rushing yards per game. The Eagles in 3 weeks have been perhaps the best rush defense in the league. But the Vikings and Bucs did not particularly pose much of a threat to run in the first place.

If the Eagles can stop Brian Robinson as well, it will go a long way to saying this D-Line may even be an improvement over last season. Because while they could get after the QB a lot last season, the run game often gave them issues. But Jordan Davis may as well be a brick wall RBs are trying to ruin into so far this season. Let’s see how they do against a talented back like Robinson.
