Week 17 Eagles Power Rankings Roundup- Eagles Finally Lose
After 10 straight wins, the Eagles finally lost. It was without Jalen Hurts, so you can’t read too much into it. But after people around the league were calling the Eagles the best team in the league after beating the Steelers, did this change how people feel? Find out how people around the league feel in the Week 17 Eagles Power Rankings Roundup.
Week 17 Eagles Power Rankings
ESPN- 3 (Previously 1)
“Mitchell, the Eagles’ first-round pick, is in contention for Rookie Defensive Player of the Year. He is tied for eighth with 10 passes defensed despite being targeted just 61 times. Quarterbacks are completing 56% of their throws in his direction while averaging 6.4 yards per target. A key figure for the league’s No. 2 passing defense, Mitchell has allowed one touchdown in 906 snaps. The only thing that’s missing from his résumé is interceptions (zero).”
Mitchell had his 1st slip-up this season when he let Terry McLaurin beat him to score a TD. But think about that, it took a rookie 15 games to allow a TD. He matched up with some of the best WRs in the league and didn’t blink until week 16.

“Losing Jalen Hurts to a concussion against Washington hurt, but the defense let them down as well. They have to get back on track after Jayden Daniels carved them up.”
Dropping Eagles to 6 because they lost without their QB is insane. Also, this was only the 2nd time the defense gave up 30 this season, and only the 2nd time since the bye week they gave up 20. The other time came because of a garbage-time TD. if you judge the defense by 1 bad game, you quite simply don’t know what you are talking about. Pete Prisco is massively overreacting to 1 game.
Yahoo Sports- 1 (Previously 1)
“The Eagles’ chances of getting the No. 1 seed are pretty low now because they’re behind two NFC North teams with two games to go. That stings. But the Eagles are still good enough to go on the road and win the NFC championship game at whichever team gets the No. 1 seed.”
Good to see someone is reasonable and not overreacting to 1 game where they don’t have their QB. Losing the 1 seed hurts. But last week should not change how confident you are in this team.
USA Today- 6 (Previously 2)
“This dip is less the result of dropping a game on the road to a quality Commanders team and more a function of the uncertainty currently clouding QB Jalen Hurts’ (concussion) availability – similar to what the Chiefs were dealing with a week ago when Mahomes injured his ankle. Regardless, Philly is a near lock for the No. 2 seed and, assuming Hurts is back soon, could very much be vying for a second Super Bowl berth in three seasons.”
At most, he is out 1 more week. That logic makes even less sense than Pete Prisco did. Are you ranking solely based on how you think they will play this week? What does Hurts’ availability this week have to do with who the best team in the league is?
Sports Illustrated- 5 (Previously 2)
“A Nick Foles–Carson Wentz style arc in which Kenny Pickett takes over for Jalen Hurts and leads the Eagles to a Super Bowl.“
Connor Orr did a thing where he picked what each team needs for Christmas. Hurts is out with a concussion, not a torn ACL. So not really sure what Connor Orr is talking about here.
