CT’s Top 3 Takeaways From The Eagles Win Over The Jags
The Philadelphia Eagles won on Sunday, but it wasn’t the breeze that most people thought it would be. In fact, I wanted to let the discourse settle for a day before evaluating the game on Monday like usual. After a 22-0 start, numerous questionable decisions from Nick Sirianni made it a tight game against the lowly Jaguars. Unsurprisingly, we weren’t happy on Kincade And Salciunas yesterday.
Still, though, it was a win. And a pretty darn impressive one simply from a players perspective. Here are my top 3 NON-SIRIANNI takeaways (and yes, there should be valid concern about the head coach):
1. Saquon Barkley is not human
He’s something greater than a human being. I mean the dude threw down a blind reverse hurdle like he was an Olympic ice dancer! Who does that?? Not to mention the 199 yards from scrimmage and 2 touchdowns. If there’s an MVP of this team at this point in the season, it’s Barkley for me.
2. The linebackers showed out
What an evening for Zack Baun and Nakobe Dean. Both tallied big interceptions in the game, Dean’s to seal a win for the Eagles. At a position that has been light on impact over the past couple of years (decades?) for the birds, these two have been a revelation this year. A lot of credit should also go to Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio.
3. The NFL Replay Official should be ashamed
This game had one of the most egregious missed calls I’ve ever seen in when a Saquon Barkley “fumble” was returned for a touchdown by Jacksonville. It seemed clear from replay that Barkley had been touched by a defender before contacting the ground, but some old forgotten nuance of the rule seemed to point towards that not being a good enough reason to overturn an 8 point swing in favor of the Jags.
I have seen a lot of football in my day, and I’ve never seen that call go that way. Yet it only took a millisecond to confirm? That was a complete miss by the replay official, and they’re lucky the Eagles still won the game.
