CT’s Top 3: Storylines From The Philadelphia Eagles Week 6 Win
Well, folks, it wasn’t pretty. The Eagles found a way to a 20-16 victory over the lowly Cleveland Browns yesterday, in a spot where they could ill afford to drop a game. And yet, the win didn’t quite feel like a win to a large portion of the fan base. Here’s what we had to say on Kincade And Salciunas earlier this morning:
Clearly Eagles fans are not in a great spot in spite of a win on Sunday, and I can’t say I blame anyone feeling that way.
Here are my big takeaways from the week 6 win:
1. The slow starts are beyond concerning
Scoreboard operators must love the Eagles. They haven’t had to update their score in 5 straight 1st quarters. It was another scoreless first 15 minutes for the birds on Sunday, and the offense looked stuck in the mud. Whether you put more blame on the coaching staff or the players, neither group has been good to start games. It’s well past time for the Eagles to figure out how to produce early offense.
2. Nick Sirianni is in a really bad spot
It was the sideshow that nearly overshadowed the game. Nick Sirianni spent the final moments of the win chirping Eagles fans in the crowd and then conducted a rather contentious press conference that saw him hurl blame at media and fans alike. Add on the fact that the team isn’t playing all that well, and you have a coach who seems to be in a spiral right now. It will be difficult for him to pull out of this tailspin, even if the team continues to win.
3. Jalen Hurts played a clean game
It’s easy to get lost in the negatives from yesterday, but I do want to highlight a positive from yesterday’s win. Jalen Hurts threw for 264 yards and 2 touchdowns, and more importantly, no turnovers. It’s easy to forget how big of a storyline turnovers have been for Hurts when we focus so much on the head coach, but this was a nice step for QB1. We’ll see if it continues next week against the Giants
