Quinyon Mitchell Is Bringing Swagger To Eagles Training Camp
With cornerbacks and wide receivers, a little bit of an ego is a good thing. You want those guys to ooze confidence on the field. You don’t need them to be divas, but you want them to have swagger. Quinyon Mitchell has that swagger.
Quinyon Mitchell is a rookie. He isn’t even getting 1st team reps yet. But he looks like he belongs, and is acting like he belongs. That is why when he locked up AJ Brown the other day, he immediately started trash-talking. Mitchell is a rookie, Brown is one of the best WRs in the league. But Mitchell is not only not afraid to go against him, he will talk about it when he gets one over the Eagles’ star WR.
He went up against Brown in practice, beat him on a rep, and immediately started with the trash talk.
Quinyon Mitchell Relishes Chance To Battle With Brown
“Yeah, just every day I come out and I go against A.J., I just try to compete… I mean, he’s one of the best in the game, so I know I’m gonna get good work. So every chance I get to go against him, I’m just gonna compete and try to raise the bar.”
That is the exact attitude you want from a corner. Mitchell wants to go against the best players. He wants the chance to prove his own greatness. Thus far, he has not backed down from the challenges the Eagles WR corps present.
For now, he may have to settle for playing in the slot. That is where the Eagles have been putting him, and he has looked great there. A lot of teams do like to run their best guys out of the slot. Cee Dee Lamb played over half his snaps in the slot last season for the Cowboys. Mitchell will get the chance to battle top great WRs even in the slot. If he excels there, he is going to get the chance to move outside.
It is only training camp. But Quinyon Mitchell is so far showing the Eagles made a fantastic choice. Not just because of how he looks on the field, but because of how he acts on it. Mitchell may be soft spoken off of the field, but he has a swagger you love to see on it.
