Baseball Countdown with the Kurkjians on ‘Kincade & Salciunas’
We are either two or three days from the Phillies opening up their 2024 season depending on the cooperation of Mother Nature. Instead of getting to ease into the competition, Major League Baseball decided to start the season with a huge matchup in the National League East.
The defending division champion Atlanta Braves visit Citizens Bank Park which has been their house of horrors the past two Octobers. It won’t be easy for the Phillies to recreate that magic. Spencer Strider will be looking to make a statement after not meeting postseason expectations.
It’s a critical series for the Phillies despite their postseason success over Atlanta.
With the balanced schedule that debuted in 2023, these two teams will only meet 13 times this regular season with seven of those coming at Citizens Bank Park. If you win the season series, you hold the tie-breaker in the NL East.
While they have advanced to the NLCS and the World Series the last twwo seasons, the Phillies have been out of the divisional race by Memorial Day. If they want to stick around for the long haul, a solid April start is critical.
Tim Kurkjian Joins The Show
On today’s edition of Kincade & Salciunas, we were pleased to welcome Tim Kurkjian of ESPN to the show. Discussion of the Phillies desire to capture an NL East championship and whether it truly holds any meaning was one of the discussion points.
We asked about the Phillies lineup and Tim’s expectations of the Phillies lineup and whether Trea Turner will have a bounce back season.
Tim Kurkjian was excited to discuss his newest passion project, a podcast that he has launched with his son. Jeff Kurkjian just happens to work next door at our sister station 92.5 WXTU. The podcast, “Is this a great game, or what?” is available where you get your podcasts. We wish them all the best in their new venture.
