4 Worst Offseason Fears for the Philadelphia Eagles
I’ve got faith that Howie Roseman and his team will bounce back in 2024. My faith in the Eagles to address their offseason needs isn’t blind, however. After some of the disastrous decisions of the 2023 season, I’ve got every right to foster some doubts.
What will happen in September has a lot to do with the tinkering of the lines and the overhaul of the defense that comes this spring. Here are a few of my fears that this won’t work out.
The Return of Slay and Bradberry
I complained that the Eagles decided to double down on two older starting cornerbacks after the 2022 season. It proved to be a problem in 2023. It’s been a trend that corners past 30 tend to fall off a bit. It’s a bad plan to sit around and wish for them to be better in 2024. Dead cap hit be damned, a younger secondary is a must.
Love this cornerback class. Extremely deep. One of the names I expect to continue to rise, building off his Senior Bowl performance, is Notre Dame’s Cam Hart.

Decision on D’Andre Swift
The Eagles have a history of not paying running backs. That has also been a sound strategy. In the case of D’Andre Swift, it might be worth bucking that trend. He isn’t old, and he has been available. The tread on his tires is still strong because his lack of a back breaking workload puts him in a good position to succeed.
If the Eagles go with a rookie running back, I don’t see the expectation of the Swift replacement being able to deliver the same production. A team looking to get back in the championship mix can’t afford to be less of a threat in the running game.
New Personnel for Vic Fangio
Bringing in the players that fit the system of Vic Fangio is also imperative. The problem is that Howie Roseman and his scouts will be the ones with the final say.
Do they listen and follow a man with 30 years of experience, or do they go rogue? It’s happened before. To properly execute a Fangio plan, he needs the proper fits. If linebacker is once again an afterthought, I don’t know how he will make it work.
Replacing Jason Kelce
I have expressed a belief before that if Jason Kelce isn’t coming back, I’m okay with it. They have drafted offensive linemen to prepare for this day. The fear is that the youth isn’t ready to handle the challenge. Be careful what you wish for. This Eagles team needs to get younger this offseason. Getting hung up on nostalgia is an immense risk.
