Derrick Gunn Provides Actual Eagles Analysis on 97.5 The Fanatic
The fuss about A.J. Brown has dominated the conversation surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles recently. When the top team in town implodes so unceremoniously, the most passionate NFL city will react. Questions about Jalen Hurts as a leader and Nick Sirianni as a head coach have also popped up. Derrick Gunn, who has reported on some of the prevalent issues, joined Bill Colarulo on 97.5 The Fanatic to expand on the conversations surrounding the Eagles.
According to sources: Jalen big contract-pulled in numerous directions on/off field put him under a lot of pressure he didn’t handle well ..

A.J. Brown
Hurts and Brown are two of the most talented and influential players on the Eagles. Do they have a fractured relationship? Gunn downplayed the notion and discouraged fans from reading into animated sideline conversations.
“I don’t think that’s the case whatsoever. I think A.J. is a very passionate player (who) wants the best out of everybody… The man is a competitor. He’s trying to motivate people to play, plain and simple.” -Derrick Gunn
Jalen Hurts
Plenty of questions about Hurts’ leadership qualities came up after the 25-year-old quarterback faded down the stretch in 2023. Gunn acknowledged that Hurts might need to tweak his leadership style to help the Eagles recover.
“When you’re the highest-paid player in the organization, when you’re the face of the franchise, you’re the first person everybody looks to when things are going bad. Maybe he didn’t respond in the best way possible to get these guys to rally around the cause and lead them out of their doldrums. I think it’s a valuable learning tool for Jalen Hurts in terms of what a leader has to be because I do think he has those leadership qualities.”-Gunn
The veteran reporter spoke with the intention to keep the reaction within reason. These questions have arisen within a franchise that recently suffered from the downfall of a high-priced franchise quarterback. Will the same issues that sunk Carson Wentz repeat themselves with Jalen Hurts?
“I don’t think that’s any way, shape, or form going to happen. I think Jalen is (a) completely different player from Carson Wentz. The players love Jalen. They loved him in ‘22. They loved him for the most part in ‘23, and then all these rumors start coming out. I think these players still have a lot of respect for Jalen Hurts, and I don’t think Jalen Hurts’ personality is going to hurt that in any way, shape, or form.” -Gunn
Nick Sirianni
Gunn’s initial reports about the relationship between Dom DiSandro and Nick Sirianni also drew significant reaction. However, Gunn believes his nugget about Sirianni and Big Dom’s relationship was “blown out of proportion.”
“Big Dom is very good at settling Nick down. Nick is very animated, emotional, passionate, just like any head coach… Every team in the National Football League has a guy who stays next to the head coach. Look at how emotional coaches get (after) bad calls, calls against them, things of that nature.” -Gunn
The sudden fame of Big Dom swept through the NFL after Philadelphia’s chief of security (involuntarily) left the game against the San Francisco 49ers early. Gunn spoke lightheartedly about his relationship with DiSandro and gave some inside access about the legend that Big Dom has suddenly become.
“People just look at Big Dom as a security guard. He’s the chief of security for that team, and he’s also the senior advisor to the general manager, and he has a number of other titles and job descriptions that I can’t even go into stuff that he does. Dom does more than just security for the Philadelphia Eagles.” -Gunn
Reactionary conversation has become chaotic during the 2024 offseason. However, when you need balanced discussion about the Eagles, trust an insider like Derrick Gunn.
